Casey : rise in insurgent attacks "an anomaly"
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 08:07 PM by tocqueville
General George Casey, commander of the US-led forces in Iraq, said the rise in insurgent attacks this week was "an anomaly."

"They're in a vulnerable period during the formation of the government, but I don't think it's on the brink of civil war," General George Casey told the US television channel CNN in an interview.

"I think we can't let what's happened in the last few days distract us from the progress that's been made over the last year. That's what the terrorists want," the general said.

More than 125 people were killed on Thursday, including 11 US soldiers, in five separate insurgent attacks across the country.

4. Pardon me for asking, but ...
"They're in a vulnerable period during the formation of the government ..."

Is that the same 'vulnerable period' that led to the 'insurgiency being in its last throes' only a few months ago?

Just wonderin' ...

6. guess he was summoned by the administration to put a positive spin on the
130 deaths that happened in ONE DAY! Also, isn't it interesting how the additional 6 soldier deaths were not reported until today even though they happened yesterday. The propaganda that surrounds this war is really getting scary. We are losing so many american and iraqi lives, the country is in a civil war, yet a general gets on tv and calls the violence an "anamoly"?

Unbelievable...
