"SIR NO SIR!"
In the 1960s, thousands of American GIs rebelled against the Vietnam War, changing the course of U.S. history and society. No film has ever told their story...until now. Anyone waging war with American troops might want to listen carefully to the largely untold story of David Zeiger's new documentary“ (Los Angeles Times)

Perfectly timed with new doubts about the Iraq War.“ (Variety)

Funky shot of counter-cultural spirit.“ (The London Times)

Combines exceptional artistry and insightful analysis with great story telling.“ (International Documentary Magazine)

5. I especially liked the "myth of the spiitng hippies"
because I watched 2 soldiers in 89 or 70 harassing and spitting on a skinny sorry lookin hippie until the hippies buddies (all big mountain man lookin hippies) pulled up in a flowery VW van and whaled the living shit out of the soldiers. My brother and I had to jump in and save the soldiers ass.

That or their heads will explode from being programmed all these years to believing "evil libruls" caused us to lose. Notice they never ever say just what the fuck we were supposed to have won???

Anyhoo, either way I won't mind; denigrate the troops is gonna get their asses put into slings; troops aren't in the mood right now for bullshit crap fropm freeping cowards. And if their heads explode, even better.

I've read an article or two of Stan Goff's that describes how the grunts ended the Vietnam War - at risk of their freedom and their lives.

Thank you! :patriot:

20. I saw it happening and it wasn't just in Vietnam!
Our Country Was SO proud of us! Our Fearless leaders are STILL proud of us today.

From Rumsfeld, an ugly smear and a giant fib

snip...

Well, this is a different year, and in his first 2003 press conference, Rumsfeld shamefully smeared American veterans and then deliberately fibbed about how there is absolutely "no need " to consider reinstating the draft because the nation's all-volunteer military was, he assured us, working perfectly.

First, the smear of veterans. Speaking of the 11 million Americans who, during the Vietnam years, answered their country's draft call and the 2 million who served in Vietnam, Rumsfeld alleged that these draftees "added no value, no advantage, really, to the United States armed services over any sustained period of time, because the churning that took place, it took enormous amount of effort in terms of training, and then they were gone."

I'll say "then, they were gone!" Of the 58,152 Americans who gave their lives in Vietnam 20,352 of them were draftees. How dare the secretary of defense say these good and brave Americans "added no value, no advantage, to the United States armed services?"

Why would he slander the sacrifice of these brave men, dishonor their memory and rub salt in their families' wounds? MORE...

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/01/20/column.shields.opinion.rumsfeld/index.html

I'll try and go see the movie, but the real thing was some sorry shit to go through!

A significant number of troops are foreigners who joined the US army on the promise of US citizenship.

27. In the 1960s there was a draft.
I wonder if we can expect this type of rebellion from an "all volunteer" army.

32. I don't know.
I think the Marines were all volunteers even during the Vietnam War - I don't think they accepted draftees. I don't know if Marine units ever refused orders.

But, at that time, a lot of people who "volunteered" were volunteering because they were going to be drafted anyway, and volunteers supposedly got the better assignments.

there were plenty of marines refusing their orders...in fact, if you go to the site and watch the trailer the second guy to speak was a marine who refused orders.

28. Check out this list of the true heroes , those that resist Bush wars.
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 02:32 PM by Tom Joad
http://tomjoad.org/WarHeroes.htm

We honor those soldiers who risked loss of liberty, economic deprivation, and social ostracism. Each of these men and women of the military have at some point refused orders in this immoral, illegal, unjustified war the United States is currently waging in Iraq, or the occupation in Afghanistan. They obeyed their conscience over illegal orders.

30. And we might be seeing a repeat of that history right now
that is why they don't want draftees, since they believe a profesional military is easier to control... next time we will fight with mercenary troops, mark my words
