How I know that the war on Gay Marriage is bullshit
Parents raise their children in their own Faith, be it Christian, Judaism, Muslim or whatever. These children attend school for 13 years (K thru 12), and are exposed to children of other religions. The parents have no problem with their children being exposed to these children of other religions and talking to them about it, because they know that their parental guidance is what is important, and they know that their child is being brought up "properly". Yet, in reality, some children change religions after they become adults. Some due to their own beliefs changing, some to marry someone of a different religion.

Despite this, these parents support the Right to Freedom of Religion. You never hear anyone (sane) calling for the ban of religions other than their own. Anyone that does cry for this is labelled a "nut" and "anti-American" and a biggot.

Now rewind the scenario.

These same children spend 13 years (K thru 12) exposed to children that are gay. The parents get upset about this, and claim their children are "in danger" from these children. Even though their child was raised by these parents for years, the parents feel that 5 minutes of exposure to a gay person will "turn their child gay". Yet, in reality, no one in the history of the earth has "turned gay". No amount of exposure to a gay person has ever turned a straight person gay. Ever.

Despite this, these parents support the ban on Gay Marriage. They are not called "nuts", "anti-American" or "biggots" for this insane belief.

Well, at least not by each other.

1. I'm reminded it's all B.S.
When my partner and I get "invited" once again to go to our neighbor's church services, the same ones who denounced our Halloween display as celebrating witchcraft and "anti-religious". (We just love putting on a display for the neighborhood kids.)

This coming from a couple with six marriages between them. My partner and I have probably been together longer than they've been born-agains.

2. "Equal marriage", not "gay marriage"
Let the GOP and other prejudice-mongers emphasize the sex; we should be emphasizing equal rights. It's all in how you frame the debate :hi:

3. I know, it defies logic. But the majority of Americans hate Gays.

Look at the past elections involving gay issues as proof. Yet individually they pretend to be open minded. Perhaps it's group-think or the mentality of the mob or even simple selfishness. They simply don't realize that they are being manipulated to give up their economic strength.

Anyway, it comforts me to think these Americans are complete idiots, morons and are from a generation remembered for the headline, "Why can't Johnny read?"

I grew up during the 70s and I know this is an accurate description of today's 40 somethings who run this country. They were either on drugs or didn't care. The attitude then is like it is now, our world is slowly commiting suicide so why bother. Religious nonsense has been a constant. However, religion now demands even greater discipline as fundamentalism is much stricter, demanding absolute slavery to selected passages from the Bible.

4. Hey! We're talking about a great American tradition here
The ruling class has always pitted folks against eachother--poor whites against blacks being the most famous. Anything to distract them and channel their anger. But I disagree with your statement "Despite this, these parents support the Right to Freedom of Religion." Hopefully most parents still do, but many now don't.
The christian ayatollahs don't want equal time. They want christian sharia, a christian state. Right now they are using gays as strawmen to mobilize their sheep. Don't take it personal. They'd be just as happy targeting jews, pagans, muslims or goddless commies.
