Memo sent to Democratic press secretaries outlines strategy on Bush court nominee

A memo sent to Democratic press secretaries Monday brands Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito "Borklette" in reference to the failed Reagan court nominee and outlines the Democrats' strategy for handling Alito.
The memo, leaked to RAW STORY, was first revealed by John Stanton in ROLL CALL. Stanton writes: "Saying 'the stakes could not be higher,' Reid aide Rebecca Kirszner argues in a set of talking points circulated today that 'today, an independent Supreme Court is too often the last check against abuse of power and the final protector of individual rights.'
"The memo brands Alito a 'Borklette,' based on his praise of failed Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork, and outlines a series of historical and recent instances in which Alito has backed a strengthened hand for the executive branch," Stanton adds.
Alito on Bork: “I think he was one of the most outstanding nominees of this century. He is a man of unequaled ability, understanding of constitutional history, someone who had thought deeply throughout his entire life about constitutional issues and about the Supreme Court and the role it ought to play in American society.
