Question about mandatory overtime
I don't know if this forum can help, but it's worth a try.

My husband has been working a lot (emphasis on LOT) of overtime with his company. He gets paid for it, but he is starting to get very tired and burned out. He feels that he has to work this overtime or lose his job. This overtime sometimes lasts as long as 20-36 hours straight.

Does anyone know if he is obligated to work without sufficient time to rest? He has asked questions about it, and of course he has been threatened with losing his job just for asking. However, he has been given conflicting answers, too. I am worried about both his job and his health.

Please let me know how to research this or what to do. Thanks in advance! :hi:

1. 36 hours straight?
Do they do that a lot? Sounds like your state's Department of Labor needs a heads up.

Do they give him any recouperation time after those marathons? What does he do that warrants such hours?

3. Yes they do
In the past he has not been given more than 7-8 hours between shifts. That does not include drive time, so he gets 5-6 hrs. sleep.

He is in telecommunications.

2. Try the Wages and Hours Division
of your State Dept. of Labor. I hate to ask--but does your husband have a union? If not--maybe it's time to see if there should be some organizing going on.

5. Guidelines except for emergencies are 14 hours

Contact OSHA first, even though W gutted a good part of it. Wage and hour second. State laws very. Keep us up to date.
