MONTGOMERY TWP. — The CEO of Lloyd Industries said violations filed Tuesday against his company by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration would be overturned on appeal.

Bill Lloyd called the $140,760 in fines "an absolute joke."

A recent investigation —prompted by a comprehensive 2005 inspection — cited the company for five willful, four repeat, one serious and two other-than-serious violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.

Lloyd said OSHA targeted his company, which manufactures fire protection systems for large buildings, to generate money.

Since the agency receives no federal funding, he said, OSHA goes after profitable businesses.

"They would not go after a company about to declare bankruptcy," Lloyd said.

However, those claims have proved false.
