Candidates Make Case to AFSCME Members

This week, five of the top Democratic presidential candidates stood before more than 2,000 AFSCME members, and each made their case for why they should be President — and why they deserve AFSCME's prized endorsement. The event was covered live on MSNBC.

The Presidential Forum was part of our union's Leadership Conference. 2,000 AFSCME members and activists came to Washington, D.C. to train and plan for the 2008 campaign. These plans include building an army of 40,000 AFSCME members to turn out the vote. After the forum, members participated in a town hall meeting where we discussed the candidates.

After the town hall we boarded buses en masse and headed to the Capitol, joining a thousand more union members, and rallied for the Employee Free Choice Act. This bill would stop employers from intimidating workers who want to join unions. On Wednesday, we heard from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.
