Mexico: Union-busting at publicly-owned petroleum company

Imagine if this described your workplace:

After a long and hard fight, you finally win recognition from your employer.

And then -- just when you can taste victory -- your employer fires fifty union leaders, including all members of your national executive.

And if that's not enough, the employer then tells union members that if they want to keep their jobs, they have to resign from the union.

That's exactly what's happened to 30,000 people who work for PEMEX, the huge, publicly-owned petroleum company in Mexico.

They're asking for all us to send messages to the Mexican government today, demanding that it stop union busting and respect workers rights.

It only takes a minute to send off a message -- please do so now: http://www.labourstart.org/cgi-bin/solidarityforever/show_campaign.cgi?c=654

Also -- we've had an urgent request from the International Transport Workers Federation asking all of us to support port drivers in Mumbai, India. Full details are here: http://www.itfglobal.org/files/broadcast/ENG/49

Thanks very much -- and please pass this message on.

Eric Lee.
