47. Damn! Nice speech!
I never cared for him as a candidate. Seemed uncharismatic and kooky. If I'd seen this kind of speech though, he'd have had more of my respect.

Although perhaps mainstream media set up the appearance that way to further ensure he had no chance?

Glad you're on board now though - Dennis is truly one of a kind!

124. That's what I was thinking, too.
Maybe the poster in question never heard them because the MSM never paid any attention to DK and tried to shut him out, and paint him as a kook.

133. If you ever get the chance to hear him speak, you will revise your opinion.
He is one of very few Senators and Congresspeople who keep Progressives in the Democratic Party. Obama and Edwards stole shamelessly from his platform during the Primaries, including "Yes We Can," for very good reasons.

He has never seemed "uncharismatic" or "kooky" to me, that's for sure. I am still extremely disappointed that he will not be representing the Democratic Party in the GE.

196. Yup. Nevada Supreme Court overturned a lower court decision
Stating that it violated poor little MSBNC's First amendment press freedom.

Disgusting, sickening, outrageous -- I know.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22672634/

LAS VEGAS - The Nevada Supreme Court said Tuesday MSNBC can exclude Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich from a candidate debate.

Lawyers for NBC Universal Inc., had asked the high court to overturn a lower court order that the cable TV news network include the Ohio congressman or pull the plug on broadcasting the debate Tuesday night with Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards.

28. Only kooks dream of peace
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 07:52 PM by RufusTFirefly

First examine our attitude towards peace itself. Too many of us think it is impossible. Too many think it is unreal. But that is a dangerous, defeatist belief. It leads to the conclusion that war is inevitable, that mankind is doomed, that we are gripped by forces we cannot control. We need not accept that view. Our problems are manmade; therefore, they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings. Man's reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable, and we believe they can do it again. I am not referring to the absolute, infinite concept of universal peace and good will of which some fantasies and fanatics dream. I do not deny the value of hopes and dreams but we merely invite discouragement and incredulity by making that our only and immediate goal.

Let us focus instead on a more practical, more attainable peace-- based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions--on a series of concrete actions and effective agreements which are in the interest of all concerned. There is no single, simple key to this peace--no grand or magic formula to be adopted by one or two powers. Genuine peace must be the product of many nations, the sum of many acts. It must be dynamic, not static, changing to meet the challenge of each new generation. For peace is a process--a way of solving problems.

John F. Kennedy, June 10, 1963. American University.

143. Actually, he was the best we had running
Americans, as usual, were simply too uninformed. Notice the posts even here on DU that say things like "Wow, if he had been like that in the primaries I would have voted for him". Well, the truth is he was like that on the campaign trail, and he has been like that through his tenure in Congress. Corporations so fear his "people first" style of politics that they demand he be shunned & ridiculed in their media outlets, and rather than do independent research the average voter simply buys into these false claims and joins in on the laugh-it-up ridicule because, after all, he is kind of funny looking and I heard somewhere he is a vegan...so he must be a kook right?

That was the BEST exposition of what's been so WRONG these 8 years. There has just GOT to be a place for Dennis in the upcoming Obama administration! In another thread a while back, I had (tongue in cheek) proposed him to head a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Perhaps that may just happen!

72. A shame isn't it?
I have to wonder why he is even bothering with the Democratic Party anymore. They tried to silence him during the debates. They only let him address the Convention during the off hours. They aren't planning on implementing any of his liberal ideas. Health Care? Give me a break. Peace? Who in the DLC mentions peace? It is Democratic Party leaders who need a "wake-up" call. I can only hope that people like Kucinich can some day take back the Party.

119. Ha! Found the quote, see what you mean...
“We Democrats are giving America a wake-up call,” he preached. “Wake up, America. In 2001, the oil companies, the war contractors and the neo-con artists seized the economy and have added $4 trillion of unproductive spending to the national debt. We now pay four times more for defense, three times more for gasoline and home heating oil, and twice what we paid for health care.”

When he referred to "the neo-con artists," I think he meant it in the same way as "artful dodger," but, you're right, he might have chosen a better word. He meant those in the administration who support the neo-con agenda, which might have been less confusing for those in the audience who are not familiar with the term, since he went on to explain what the results of their agenda have been for the American people...:-(

But it still was a magnificent and inspiring speech, and Dennis never lets us down with his detailed knowledge, nor his passion...:patriot:

Thanks!:hi:

122. Strange, when he said neo Con-Artists
I was cheering. I thought it was a great turn on their identity, exposing them for the con artists they are. And his emphasis when he spoke it was perfect to indicate that they were con artists, not neo-con... artists.

That was a very clever turn of phrase, but Dennis is a brilliant and inspiring speaker. I guess it didn't resonate with me because I read it, rather than heard him say it, much to my disappointment. But I'm sure that his audience did, as well as those who he was referring to, and Dennis is never once to mince words, LOL. Got it, now, thanks!:hi:

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!! WAKE UP CONVENTION DELEGATES!!!! It's not just Democrats watching these proceedings. Each time I turn on C-Span I hear call-ins from Republicans, Independents, and heaven knows who else. As a TV viewer, I am distressed to see so little enthusism shown on the convention floor. Dennis Kucinich actually woke them (you) up. I can just imagine how enthusiastic the Republicans will be for the camera.

Let's show the world that we are ready for CHANGE!!! And - we care about how this convention is being broadcast to the world.

GO OBAMA!!!!! GO BIDEN!!!!!! Find a great spot in the Administraton for Dennis Kucinich. He is a National Treasure.

131. you won't get a better speech or a better candidate.
the democrats blew it by not nominating him. when you hear dennis you know why i cannot support obama wholeheartedly. dennis is/was my first choice, obama was my next to last choice. nothing has changed because the primaries are over. if dennis kucinich is too radical for you, we're not on the same team.

on the other hand, i think it is significant that they let him on the stage at all and also significant that it was not in prime time. dennis said he would not support a candidate that used war as a instrument of foreign policy. i can only trust that dennis is convinced obama's foreign policy will meet that standard.

i believe that within 4 years of obama taking office many of you will regret not having voted for kucinich.

134. What I love about Dennis
is that he is one of our most brilliant and intelligent representatives on a wide range of policy issues and can speak about them in Congress and to the media in a down-to-earth and soft-spoken way that compels attention and enlarges understanding, and yet he can also give fiery, inspirational speeches like this one to get the crowd on its feet and put energy back into our spirits again. Once people listen to him for the first time, I rarely hear them disagree with what he stands for or his method of getting his views across. The sad thing is there are still many who haven't heard him. Someday I hope and pray he gets the media exposure he (and we) deserve/s.

140. This might be one of the strangest, greatest, moments of any convention because..
If you look at the speech, at the start, everyone seems totally disinterested. Out of it, not paying attention. By the end of the speech, last 30 seconds, Dennis has got the crowd, what crowd there was, standing and shouting. A great tribute to someone who was almost totally ignored by this convention.

166. Indeed. It was a wonderful tribute to Stephanie Tubbs Jones
I could sense that he was almost channeling her spirit and her strength. (Not that Dennis needs any additional help in the spirit and strength departments!) Note also that Dennis was wearing a button with her picture.

"While some have called our cause foolish I can assure you that my parents, Mary and Andrew Tubbs did not raise any fools and as a lawyer, former judge and prosecutor, I am duty bound to follow the law and apply the law to the facts as I find them." -- Stephanie Tubbs Jones (1949-2008)

199. Dennis Kucinich
I wonder if Jesus Christ was here in the flesh, would he be or the same mind as Dennis ? Every time I hear Dennis, I think that thought. Why, oh why, isn't he put on the TV more often ? I don't even see or hear him on Link TV. I wait and wait to hear from that man, and it frustrates me that he is just left out. I know....he is to get in step, but one day he will get free of the thugs and he is going to save us.
