Those are his words, not mine. What's more important is he says emphatically that Senator John McCain, by virtue of his length of service in Washington, cannot bring about CHANGE in Washington. Gonna be hard for him to backpeddle on that one.

5. Me too, because it will cause thousands of conservative evangelicals to refuse to vote for McCain,
and he needs every one of those votes he can get. Romney's own words will make for some easy and good ads.

47. Not yet,
save it til the final 2 weeks and run it constantly.

I saw McSame is running the Hillary "Obama has a speech he gave" commercial. Dumb idea... he shoulda saved that for arsenal. I would love if they held this AWESOME anti-McCain comment of Mitten's until the final few weeks and then slam them with it as people watch him say it for the 'first' time, if you will. It will be GREAT!

I think he is picking Pawlenty, but that's just me, I guess Mittens is a high probability too, but man, what a dumb choice for McSame if he does that!

Depends poster boys ticket!

DentuCream ticket!

VIAGRA ticket!

Hoveround ticket!

Senile Seniors ticket!

I could go on and on!

BUT, the best reason? Lieberman is PRO-CHOICE- killer for the far right evangelical crowd. If Lieberman is the VP and something happens to McCain, the evangelicals will have elected a PRO-CHOICE president!

3. Sour Grapes (keep 'em coming)
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 07:11 AM by ExPatLeftist
I saw on Faux News yesterday (know thy enemy) that Karl Rove said that he talked to Romney who was all worried because McCain had not contacted him in three days, and assumed that that meant that he was out of the race for the VP loser slot. I think he must have gotten the word for sure, or is very confident in his assumption and these comments are a part of his bitter payback. Or if this is an old tape, then we can expect more of this - Romney wanted the VP slot bad, and I would not put it past that sleazebag to torpedo his own guy just out of spite.

I hope for some GOP infighting to balance out the (perceived) disunity in our party. Go for the jugular, Mittens!

51. You are correct, it was early January. See links below:
It is true that Romney said that "Barack Obama is a Senator killer." In January. However, think that there's a little shenanigans going on here...add on of McCain's name. Check the date of the video(s) referenced here...hours ago, not January.

A little editing going on here?

This quote is supposedly from Fox News. But the video referenced has no mention of the Senator killer.

"Obama has won big in North Carolina and almost won in Indiana. Zogby, your polls were the best for this one. This is an analysis of how FoxNews sets the agenda and control the thought processes of those who listen to them and cannot think for themselves. It also shows how FoxNews has been promoting Hillary while denigrating Obama. Why? It is because they know like Mitt Romney indicated, "Obama is a Senator killer", he has defeated all Senators, Hillary and then McCain. The Republicans fear running against Obama but would love nothing better than running against Hillary. HOW MANY REPUBLICANS VOTED FOR HILLARY IN INDIANA????? Those are not votes she would get in a general election. (Obama has won BIG!)"

Check out these links.

http://jazz-from-hell.blogspot.com/2008/01/romney-barack-obama-killer.html

In addition to the article in the link below, click on the video. About four minutes into it is the Romney Senator killer bit.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=17909166

Even so, "Barack Obama is a Senator killer" is still pretty strong.

52. Considering the discrepancy in dates, obviated by pic...
if this was doctored it would seem that honesty would still work.

Romney said, "Barack Obama is a Senator killer." Isn't McCain a Senator?

If it wasn't doctored, where's the proof matching date and time?

54. Found this on "The Hotline."
http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2008/01/hotline_after_d_321.html

(It was early January, e.g., the snow in the picture. How has this been kept secret(?) for over seven months? CNN? I never had a doubt that was Romney in the video...only question about - whatever.)

AC360: Romney Quote

On his final message to NH Indies: "Well, people across the country are saying that Washington is fundamentally broken and has to be changed. And they recognize that having Barack Obama as the leader of the Democratic Party means that we're going to have to have somebody that goes up against him who's not a long-term Senator. He's a Senator killer. He took care of Biden and Dodd and Hillary Clinton, and he's going to take care of John McCain if he's our nominee. We have to have somebody who not only can talk about bringing change to America but has a record of changing business, the Olympics and a state.”

Also found this at CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360 Degrees"

http://premium.europe.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0801/07/acd.02.html

MITT ROMNEY, (R) PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: What brings you out on a day like this? COOPER: "After a bruising defeat in Iowa, Mitt Romney is in serious need of a win. His closing argument to voters, he's the most electable Republican."

ROMNEY: "Having Barack Obama as the leader of the Democratic Party means that we're going to have to have somebody who goes up against him, who is not a long-term senator. He's a senator killer, he took care of Biden, Dodd and Hillary Clinton and he's going to take care of John McCain if he's our nominee."

COOPER: "you don't believe a John McCain could beat a Barack Obama?"

ROMNEY: "I think it would be very hard for a John McCain to beat a Barack Obama. People want change. They do not want a Washington insider. They don't believe an insider can turn Washington inside out."

And this one: (dupe of sorts)

http://premium.asia.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0801/07/acd.01.html

ROMNEY: "Having Barack Obama as the leader of the Democratic Party means that we're going to have to have somebody who goes up against him who is not a long-term senator. He's a senator killer. He took care of Biden, and Dodd, and Hillary Clinton, and he's going to take care of John McCain if he's our nominee."

(on camera): "You don't believe a John McCain could beat a Barack Obama?"

ROMNEY: "I think it would be very hard for John McCain to beat a Barack Obama. People want change. They do not want a Washington insider. They don't believe an insider can turn Washington inside out."

8. all this talk about Obama's associates, tangential as they are ...
then you have Mitt's daddy ... to borrow a tactic from John McCain ...

'"When I came back from Viet Nam , I'd just had the greatest brainwashing that anybody can get." He then shifted to opposing the war: "I no longer believe that it was necessary for us to get involved in South Vietnam to stop Communist aggression in Southeast Asia," he declared. Decrying the "tragic" conflict, he urged "a sound peace in South Vietnam at an early time." Thus Romney disavowed the war and reversed himself from his earlier stated belief that the war was "morally right and necessary."'

Oh wait. . .

Seriously, Mitt Romney has no core values. Just like the neocons, he will lie, cheat and steal to achieve his ends. They like that about him. I still say, for that reason, it will be him.

By the way, I grew up in Michigan and remember his parents well. They are spinning in their graves about their soulless son, believe me.

Commentator: You don’t believe that John McCain can beat Barrack Obama?

“I think it would be very hard for a John McCain to beat a Barrack Obama.. I think John McCain would suffer the same fate that Hillary Clinton, Chris Dodd, and Joe Biden suffered when they faced Obama in Iowa. People want change. They do not want a Washington insider. 48. Especially considering...
...the Senator in question has some persistent health issues. Saying Obama is a "senator killer" in reference to McCain, who could die at any moment from the shock of a brightly lit email screen or the glare off some solar panels or the sounds of applause at Obamas nomination acceptance speech...doesn't bode well for Mr. McGrumpy.
