2. As a mother,
I can say that is a fair question. Also being a VP to someone who is 72 years old, increases the odds that she could become president.

3. To play the devil's advocate, would we ask the same question if she were a man?
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 03:34 PM by CottonBear
Will her husband be the stay at home dad and primary caretaker?

If she was the wife of McCain's VP candiate we wouldn't be asking.

edit: I think she is fodder for the fundy anti-abortion crowd. Today, OxcyRush was crowing about how "Hillary supporters" wouls vote for her. What a losd of shit. :(
:grr:Of course NO true Democrat would vote for McCain-Palin.

5. You are correct. It is not a fair question. But as a mom it did cross my mind.

15. actually, the rethugs tried that one on Obama
I vaguely remember it from some time back, they tried to attack his family values because he must be away from his young family so much while campaigning.

It sank like a stone, though, because he handled it so deftly and reasonably. They just couldn't make it stick.

And it is a fair question to ask of *any* candidate with young children and especially an infant on the way, and a special needs infant to boot.

4. that is a very good question...
and I'm NOT anti-mom, I'm a mom myself.

I just remember when I had my baby and went back to work (corporate job), I felt so conflicted. When I was at home, I felt I should be at work, when I was at work, I felt like I was neglecting my baby...it was not a happy time. And my babies were not special needs, so I'd imagine it would be worse.

9. It's so hard....
I had three months the first time (I accumulated my vacation time) but only 2 months the second time. both times were stressful. I wouldn't want to go back there, although I loved when they were babies!

10. I'm a mother, too,
daughters in their 20s, both want to be educators.

I went back to work after they were 3 months, and didn't have problems with that; their dad was really a co-parent, and girls now thank me for my varied experiences, adding to their experiences.

Problem here may be downs; don't know significance, as friends of ours shared our sitter, for their 2 'regular' boys and middle, with downs.

More problematic, I think, is her relative lack of relevant experience, and mcC's 'condition.'

14. yes, I agree, there are bigger
things than the "mommy" question...

like she actually sued to get Polar Bears removed from the Endangered Species List? because they hampered the oil drilling? are you serious?

and she supports aerial hunting of wolves in her state? is that really hunting?

18. Holy crap!!! 5-month old with Downs?
What kind of a mother would make this choice?

The VP job required an intense commitment, sometimes 24x7. You cannot do that and take care of a Down's baby. I'm sorry. This is a baby. It needs love and nurturing, especially with Downs.

And she calls herself "pro life". This is one of the mist sickening things I have heard recently.

20. They don't plan on her doing ANYTHING as VP.
I'm sure she'd be nothing but a shadow puppet. She's on that ticket simply to pull attention to it.

Someone else will definitely be pulling the strings if she becomes VP.

19. awesome - thank you for posting - and goodness this is HORRIBLE in appearance
in its own way, it screams of maltreatment of a mother not committing her baby first, to those who aren't in the know - and that's all that matters. I'm sure she cares for her child well as gov. of Alaska, and still works, but to think of her having an INFANT with Down's Syndrome and running for vice-president seems a bit selfish, to me at least...
