Reposting this from my response to the original ad....

I had my students deconstruct this ad in my class as part of our current propaganda unit. Funny thing is that we started analyzing it last week when it appeared on youtube, and over the weekend when they were doing their homework on it, it blew up all over the t.v. channels. this made them even more intent to dissect its hate and fear-mongering, and we had a very lively and consientious discussion in class on it this past Tuesday.
You name it, they identified all the propaganda techiniques it's using---name-calling and caricature of mayor newsom as a form of scapegoating and stigmatizing the opposition, appeals to fear and anger via the fallacious equivocation of his statement as so-called "anti-democratic", layering over that the same appeal via its equivocation of the supreme court judges' ruling, glittering generalities through its faulty association of all of California's registered voters with its own cause, intentionally misrepresenting the professor's "authority" as a "neutral expert" on the law (Pepperdine, where he teaches, is a Catholic University, something the ad never tells you), and piling lie upon lie in every prevariacated lie he tells. Not one of his statements is true, and can be seen in this great propaganda-deunking response ad:
My students were VERY displeased with all of this. people in California can see through the B.S., and proposition 8 is not going to pass....
