8. I know this may sound a little weird but Obama chokes me up
quite a lot. Just listening to him speak often touches me deeply. I stopped watching TV altogether after * was put in the WH because I can't stand the man -- even watching short clips of him is so irritating I just can't stand it. I'm just not used to seeing strong, intelligent, sensitive, compassionate, articulate speakers like Obama -- not since the old days (MLK, RFK). Clinton never touched me that way. Gore did sometimes but mostly after he had the election stolen from him.

18. The phrase "He speaks to me" really describes Obama's style of conversation.
There is this feeling that even though he's running for the highest office in the land he doesn't look at himself as an "us" vs "them". He jokes about himself being SuperMan, but you know he's in on the joke.

Clinton was "engaging" but he still had that desire to get away with the little things.

Obama is a grownup who cares about other people and wants to make a difference. He hurts when his kids have to give up part of their life for his aspirations, but sees that they enjoy the time with him and mom even on the campaign trail.

As a parent, you're happy that your kids are growing up... and at the same time, it makes you a little verklempt. Any parent can relate to how he feels even if it isn't for exactly the same reason.

11. Very nice.
I agree.
I am the most cynical person you'd ever meet. I grew up in the 80s and 90s, decades that just bred cynicism, especially when it comes to politicians. But every time Obama speaks, he manages to touch my heart in some way. No politician has ever been able to do that to me. He and is family are beautiful people.

53. DITTO
As the dad of 5 kids...I can certainly relate. Some of them have been caught up through osmosis in the RW crap...mom is a lunatic fringe Neo...and I see them on weekends. Drives me nuts. I'm an older cat who remembers the promise of new hope per JFK...RFK...MLK...and Carter...I just want that hope to pour all over my sons' lives. I cry like a baby when I think of leaving them a world where might is right (hmmm) and only chumps cry at their kids birthday parties. Barack has won me over in such a big way...no cynicism, no clouds of war (been there in the bad old days)no bullshit "Axis of Evil"...no starvation...no homelessness, no 'killing people to show that killing people is wrong'...Just peace, tranquility and a chance form us as members of this big blue marble to display the compassion and hope that is our true destiny...

I, too will cry if this man is not elected as our next President...

Gorgeous interview...Thanks, Katie!

27. Barack isn't a Deity, he's a human, just like you and me
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 11:01 PM by liberaltrucker
Having said that, my eyes well up whenever the man speaks.

He understands US, because he's one of US. He was raised in
a lower middle class family like most of US. He gets it, he
understands how most of US live day-to-day.

I'm not seeking a Saviour, just a President who understands
everyday life. Barack has lived it and understands.

I've never felt that way about a political figure in my lifetime. I think if Barack knocked on my door I would probably pass out. I really want to meet him someday. The only other person I've ever wanted to meet was David Gilmour from Pink Floyd, and I'd even pass on him for the chance to meet Obama.

29. I cried today
driving a phone list I'd printed to give to another volunteer for a phone bank tonight, through block after block full of Obama yard signs, on a cold October day. I kept exclaiming "every single house! every single house!"

I teared up also when a canvasser told me how kids at the doors in low income neighborhoods would light up when they saw her, a white woman, with a picture of Barack on her clipboard.

this is a historic time.

that's where I feel like we've all been for the past eight years...a very long and nasty nightmare that goes on even after we've awakened in the morning...

That having been said, though...I'll probably be right there with you...in spirit, anyway...crying out of sheer relief when the long nightmare is finally over on November 4th.

Hell...I don't drink, but I may even have a "nip" or two of something tasty in celebration...

38. "Niger lover" LOL
Yep, some guy just told me I'm a "Niger lover" in his comment on the video on YouTube. Tragically for him I only allow comments with approval, so his went in the dustbin. I was tempted to reply, though - eg "Actually, I can't claim to be a Niger lover because I've never visited the country and don't know a great deal about it, but I'm sure it's very nice."

Still, it's good to know racists can almost read and write. I wonder is this the guy with the "Obama is a Muslin" sign in his front yard?

I think that guy meant "half-blend muslin" and was commenting on Obama's wardrobe. I have a link to that guy's video and some other lovely signs from the Repugs on my blog at http://world-o-woody.blogspot.com/. Scroll down, or click on the "signs of the times" link on the right.

75. Experiencing deep emotion is part of our humanity

as is expressing the same. I don't trust "tough guys" with the cork in too tight. It's not normal or healthy. Many have false notions about what real strength is. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and accessible definitely requires strength.

This vid further reaffirms my support for Senator Obama is correct.

79. Well...
....it has nothing to do with the big stuff, like the economy and foreign policy, but it was one of the CBS questions put to both Obama and McCain in the 'character/personal' section of the 'Presidential Questions' series. Personally, I think it's good to know the quality of the man you are about to elect, and these questions gave a little insight to the character of both men. But there's no need to take it all too seriously, most of the time the debate has been about the serious stuff, rightly.

80. even as a kid, I noticed reporters asking stupid questions like that:
''Your house has just burned to the ground, with your entire family inside--how do you feel?''
