1. 'Bout time this political hack gets his just due.
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 02:08 PM by bulloney
His solution to everything was lowering interest rates. Inflation heating up? Lower interest rates. National debt going up? Lower interest rates.

The policies of the Fed under his watch promoted this crazy debt-riddled mess that's gotten us into the mess we're in.

The fallacy of the "free market" ideology is that there is more collusion and less competition among the stakeholders in the banking markets because of the concentration of the banking market. Few stakeholders = less competition.

4. This segment on the show was much longer and more detailed. In it, Cenk gives the 6 things
that destroyed the economy, per Joseph Stiglitz.

I don't remember what number it was (3 or 4 I think), but Tax Cuts were on the list. Hopefully it ends up on youtube tomorrow or Monday, but we'll see.

3. Greenspan needs to be jailed, preferably Gitmo for financial terrorism.
Had you or I caused this crash, we'd be in jail. Greenspan, Rubin, Phil Graham, all
pushed legislation that resulted in massive decontrol/deregulation of the financial
industry; they should be cited under the Patriot Act and jailed, in my view.

5. "How did they not see this?" Oh, they saw it.
That is why they didn't want regulations. This was outright theft in my opinion. These bastards need to be in jail.

6. Greenspan
should have been red-flagged way back when he vetted Keating and found him to be "okay."

8. I've been arguing against "The market will fix all" mentality for 20 years. Now the propaganda
gobblers are shocked that the market did not fix all.

16. Ever see CNBC's "House of Cards"?
Greenspan is on there looking like a total idiot, admitting on camera that he did not understand CDO's - the wording of the agreement, how they're packaged and how they were rated by the agencies.

17. Greenspan and Bush
wanted to create a Banana Republic style government. Greenspan wasn't that all unknowing of the consequences of his policies. He is a disciple of Ayn Rand's philosophy, once aptly described as, "Pull up the gangplank, I'm abroad, a attitude of total disdain for the small people to be exploited in any way so to enrich and empower themselves.

18. Oh yeah - pleading ignorance is somehow more forgivable. They do it all the time.
and there are enough suckers out there who do forgive 'em for it.
