3. "Moderate Taliban," as I understand it

has less to do with their theocratic-social beliefs, which are deeply conservative, and refers to those factions willing to keep Al-Qaida out of Afghanistan. The "extremists" in this case are those favoring the contrary course.

there you can do it anywhere. This is the first major sign of what a transformational leader the new President is. A new President, a great new era... I think President Obama's commitment to improving circumstances for Afghans is bringing about good will. It was always going to be harder for extreme elements to sell America as the "great satan" with "a guy from Illinois with a funny name" at the helm.
