Sessions flip-flops: Gay Supreme Court nominee would be a ‘big concern.’

Earlier this week, Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made headlines when he said he was open to a gay Supreme Court nominee. “I don’t think a person who acknowledges that they have gay tendencies is disqualified per se for the job,” he said. Yesterday on Fox News, Sessions initially sounded accepting of a gay nominee, saying, “Republicans do not believe in identity politics.” But he immediately qualified his statement, adding that a gay nominee would be a “big concern”:

Q: On the question of a gay nominee, one person is noted as saying that he believes it is a bridge too far to have a gay nominee.

SESSIONS: Well, I think that would be a big concern that the American people might feel — might feel uneasy about that. It is a matter for the president to decide.

The conservative group, Focus on the Family, also said yesterday, “We agree with Senator Sessions. The issue is not their sexual orientation. It’s whether they are a good judge or not.” But Sessions is now retreating to his the position of anti-gay colleagues like Sen. John Thune (R-SD).

1. if they applied the same rule to the Senate, Sessions would be unemployed
now wouldn't he? Who the hell gets to determine what "gay tendencies" are?

5. Why? Will the judges be having sex on the bench?
Gay, straight, asexual ... who the hell cares? What does that have to do with being a good judge?

I would like to see a gay person on the court because I believe the court should look like the country and be as diverse as possible. I would also like to see judges who are athiest, muslim, asian, hispanic, etc. Basically, anyone other than a straight, white, Christian male would be a step in the right direction. However, I don't think ANY of those things should be the deciding factor. Above all, we need a person who understands and respects the Constitution and the laws of our country. That person should also understand that our government is "of the people, by the people and for the people" ... NOT the corporations.

Why is the GOP bringing sexual orientation into it? :wtf:

7. As an Alabamian "represented" by this clown (no offense to circus workers)....
I gotta say he sounded **almost** reasonable. Then I noticed it was
Faux Noise. Oh well, it's been a long week. I'm entitled to the
occasional momentary lapse of reason.

9. You sure Bushrod Washington wasn't gay?
You're not sure, are you? And that's really the point. Why should you know or care?
