Please watch the video before you comment or recommend.
I am posting this as an election integrity advocate.

Swhat would have happened if several hundred Green Party members had stayed home
instead of voting.

For more info about instant runoff voting see

Please go to youtube and rank this video highly.

Thank you very much.

1. Broken logic.
The dynamic that is explained is not about instant run off or different day run off, what the person is explaining is when someone further from the center wins a primary and then the general is shifted because of that.

Far right wins a primary,
Many independents vote for democrat.

In the case, 300 extra votes giving the Far Right the primary win could end up making the democrat win. So it is no different with or without a primary in that regard.

The video is not talking about voting mechanism but about the concept of centrism. Or trying to find candidates that run down the middle.

Also in the video the person picked what numbers to use, so it does not mean that more liberal or more conservative candidates can't win, just that in the numbers he picked and the example he used, he showed the dynamic of a non center candidate pushing some votes to another side.

It is the argument used to run what some call 'centrist' in many elections. There are flaws in that argument also but that is beyond the scope of the OP.

The only failure in the system posted about in the OP is that a person votes for candidates without knowing who the opposing person is. The second choice is effectively the run off vote, but it is made not knowing if the person being voted against is Democrat, Green, or Republican.

2. The video is about how with IRV you can hurt your preferred candidate by showing up to vote
This was seen in the Burlington Vermont mayoral election this year.
Also seen in the Aspen CO election.

IRV is mathematically flawed and most certainly not worth the damage
it does to election transparency.
