Excerpts from John Perry's newsmax.com September 29, 2009 column entitled "Obama Risks a Domestic Military Intervention": There is a remote, although gaining, possibility Americas military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the "Obama problem. ... Officers swear to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Unlike enlisted personnel, they do not swear to "obey the orders of the president of the United States." ...if you are one of those observant military professionals, what do you do? ... Will the day come when patriotic general and flag officers sit down with the president, or with those who control him, and work out the national equivalent of a "family intervention," with some form of limited, shared responsibility? ... Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation. Skilled, military-trained, nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars. ... A coup is not an ideal option, but Obamas radical ideal is not acceptable or reversible.

The newsmax.com site pulled down the article and pretended that John Perry has not been a regular contributor to their site for years. Conservatives dreaming of a coup against the United States is not even news any more. Republicans at tea party protests regularly call for the overthrow of the democratically elected United States government.

BECAUSE THEY'RE TERRORISTS!!!!!!!!!!

That's why we're in this mess.

3. They are "Terrorists"
I have to say, as much as we hated Bush...Obama has not reversed any of the myriad assaults Bush committed against liberty and the constitution. Where is the repeal of the Patriot Act? Warrantless wiretapping? Still in full-effect. G20 police brutality? Rampant.

If we hated Bush for such things, we should speak against Obama's support of these offenses against liberty as well. (Unless we content ourselves to be hypocrites and partisan.)

These people are not terrorists. Quoting the founding fathers does not a criminal make.

7. Yeah, their threats and intimidation tactics in pursuit of political goals
make them terrorists. Why are you supporting terrorists?

12. I'm not supporting terrorists.
Was Thomas Jefferson a terrorist when he said "The tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants"? So Thomas Jefferson is a terrorist now?

I'm arguing that if we were against Bush and his assault on civil liberties, we need to be against that - period. We can't sit back and allow the continued assault against the constitution just because "our team" is in the White House.

14. Do you think you could find a tea bagger willing to say they were
against Obama because he hasn't repealed any of Bush's assaults on civil liberties yet. If that were even part of what these people think they are doing I'd be surprised.

16. If you actually watch the clip above...
...what you state is precisely what these are saying. Largely, they are upset about the state of civil liberties in this country. We shouldn't have police in Darth Vader outfits stomping on protesters at the DNC, RNC, G20, etc!

Unfortunately, it took a Democratic president to wake Republicans up to the fact that there has been an ongoing assault on civil liberties. And, unfortunately again, it took a Democratic president to make the Democratic party supporters forget and forgive the same very assault!

We have lost our way if we put our party ahead of the protections bestowed in the Constitution!

17. I have watched the clip, and I have seen other clips of tea baggers.
I just don't see baggers carrying signs expressing any concern about the type of civil liberties Bush stomped on, nor concern for any G20 abuses (the baggers started way before anything at G20 anyway). What civil liberties are the tea baggers actually complaining about? They are assembling. They are exercising free speech. They are letting us all know about their religious views. Hell, some have even been known to bring their guns!

19. I respectfully submit that...
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 10:04 PM by lyonspotter
...your knowledge of the complaints posited at tea-bagger protests is not comprehensive. Your incredulous comment reflects a minimizing of the issues the tea-baggers bring to the fore, much in the same way that Fox News minimizes and distorts the left's positions at an astounding rate.

This protester's sign sums things up quite nicely: http://ken_ashford.typepad.com/.a/6a00d834515b2069e201156f2b754b970c-500wi

(If you cannot view the link, the protester's sign reads: "The 2nd Amendment is in place in case politicians ignore the others.")

The Republican base has grown weary of the trampling of civil liberties, gun confiscation pushes by Obama/Holder, etc.

It is sufficient to me that you note the grievances I bring to the table, grievances against Bush's disrespect and dismantling our our traditions and rights, all continued by Obama...these assaults on our civil liberties are of major concern. ...It would be better if the left and right could come together to stop Bernanke, the Federal Reserve, and the offshore banks - our true enemies - and not waste our time fighting each other. The left against right, "Celtics against Lakers" war is superficial at best in comparison to the true problems we will soon face as a result of infighting and ignoring the true enemy.

It's high time we Americans took on these enemies of the state.

11. They don't get it because they don't care!
These rightwingers are proving their absoloute disdain and loathing for democracy with every utterance they make these days. This all serves to underline what a farce Jonah Goldberg's "liberal fascism" theory truly is. The right are now, in many quarters, advocating the overthrow of American democracy. That is the very essence of fascism. They will never succeed of course - but nevertheless, they have a dream. Goldberg ought to be schooled on this reality.

22. What we don't get: It doesn't seem to make any difference.
They've got the media.

They've got the churches.

They've got the mob.

We've got right on our side. Which -- along with two bucks -- will get us a cup of coffee.

10. Question for my liberal American friends...
I'm new in the country so I really don't know the answer to this...

What WOULD happen were some sort of military coup to take place here? I seriously don't even think it is remotely possible and that this rightwing nutjob is just talking through the usual Republican orifice. But, hypothetically speaking (and leaving the military out of it for now), would liberals/Democrats be in a position to stand up to the right in a widespread street fight? They seem to have all the guns PLUS the redneck bikers (who, let's face it, look pretty tough), combined with a general lack of respect for other people. So, the idea of them blasting a few opponents away would doubtless fill them with glee.

Again, I don't seriously think this could happen. I am just wondering what the hell we would do if it were to happen? Just riffing on the hypothetical turnpike...

25. Their would not be a unilateral military response. Since half of US soldiers don't believe in...
...rethug BS. Mass fragging and mutiny would occur if US soldiers relized they were taking part in a coup.

13. I know something that Limbaugh (spit) has in common with the Nazis:
He and his followers judge and scapegoat others as being the cause of all their problems, real or conceived. With Hitler it was the Jews and several other minorities; with Limbaugh(spit) and his ilk it is Liberals, Progressives and Democrats in general.

21. Newsmax can disassociate from it all they want but
they (wink wink) approved it none the less. I believe the Kennedy assassination was a coup. It is something that COULD happen here. At this point, I think it's more likely it would be some fool that watched too much Faux News.

The corporate powers and banksters own the whole shebang now.
