3. What is Ana's problem with citizens acting defensively in the face of assault?

It appears to me that she is trying to make it look like there is some fault in what the man did, by introducing other aspects of the man's character into the discussion. Ok, so the beard man was a pimp and probably has issues because of Vietnam, but that really isn't relevant here.

Judging from the bus video, the reaction was not overblown. On the contrary, the guy showed alot of restraint. When the attacker came onto him he had reason to assume that he faced a mortal threat.
Usually the stories don't end this way. Normally these situations end with the senior citizen getting killed or beaten to a cripple. He took swings at the attacker until the attacker went to the ground. He immediately stopped swinging once the threat was neutralized. He had a weapon which he didn't use. An overblown reaction would have been kicking the guy once he was on the ground, or something similar.

Ok, so the defender said some crazy stuff in an interview afterwards. Absolutely irrelevent to the validity of the self-defense situation. However, Ana seems to be desperately looking for something to pin on this guy to make the self-defense situation invalid. Judging from the bus video this is not possible in any way. Even if the man had said "I hate N***ers" in the interview, the situation as it appeared on the surveillance footage would have been a valid self-defense case.

5. Having seen the clip of the fight ...

It was clear that the old guy did attempt to walk away from the fight in the first place only to have the black guy follow and continue to force the issue. It was also clear that the black guy threw the first punch, even though the punch was not to the face as the old guy claimed. In my opinion the black guy is primarily at fault.

However with that said I don't think anyone should be making the old guy out to be some kind of hero.

6. Another direct fallout of crazy, senseless War

Multiply this behavior here by this veteran by how many service people will be adversely effected by their own tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan... we're going to be seeing a lot of acting out of anger and rage over the next several decades.

In the vid, EBM says that his mom died two days after the incident. How can that be? After all, he was talking on the bus about his mother's funeral!
