Hey Chuckles and Savannah, unemployment should NEVER be the "pivot" issue!! This is an emergency issue not only for the benefit of displaced workers and their families, but also for the solvency of the economy. Every $1 the Fed invests in unemployment has a net return of $1.62, whereas extending the tax cuts would have a negative effect and would grow the deficit to $2.3T!!!

Also, why has no Republican addressed the question of how to pay for all the war supplementals that have been charged to our children's credit card? If the GOP wants to get serious about cutting the deficit, they need to get their heads in the real world and stop hoodwinking their constituents into voting against their best interests.

*Hopefully no one has posted this yet*

1. Creation of jobs should be the emergency. Instead all we talk about is unemployment.

2. Sure. Do you have a plan for how that can be done immediately?
I'm sure we'd all like to hear it, so we could get everyone back to work. So, what's your plan?

4. I've actually been thinking about this.
First of all I would enforce labor laws making sure that all workers are here legally and are paid at least minimum wage in decent working conditions. I would streamline self employment making it easier for an individual to Cover all the bases of working for themselves. I would focus on funding and financing small businesses along with allowing small businesses into the federal health insurance pool. I would create a tax credit to encourage modernization and efficiency for any appliance or energy generation system or solar water heaters. I would modernize the electricity grid.

These are just some of the early ideas I have. Yes some of these ideas will take longer than others but I think if we do the things that save future expenses while creating jobs this could be a huge opportunity to modernize. I don't understand why no one else proposes any of this stuff.

3. "through no fault of their own" is the key here.
We know whose fault this economic downturn is. Wall Street wanted to make really big bucks really quick -- so they overdid the derivatives and the investments in risky mortgages. So the first causal factor was Wall Street's gambling.

The crisis their gambling caused led to the joblessness, the foreclosures, the mess in our economy. On top of that, we have the unfunded Bush wars and the unfunded Bush tax cuts. So, the second causal factor was Bush's implementation of crazy economic theories.

OK, so, now we know who caused the crisis. Let's make them pay for it. Increase taxes on Wall Street bonuses. Return to higher marginal rates for the super-rich. Let's get back to sensible economic policies.

And then, let's invest in improving our power grids and give still bigger tax incentives, tax breaks for ordinary Americans who invest in solar and wind energy and put the excess energy produced during the hours of peak production into the grid. That will permit us to build and fuel clean manufacturing facilities in the US. Let's encourage entrepreneurs to do this kind of productive investment right here in the US.
