6. malapropism

Mrs. Heartland is guilty of using a malapropism. She just foolishly blended two fine words (refute and repudiate) into refutiate. Then she decided to compound her error by comparing herself to Shakespeare, who coined new words and enriched our language. I responded to one of my conservative friends whose defense of Sarah was that Obama confused mandate and tax recently: "I will admit that President Obama may have been duplicitous in his language if you will admit that Sarah was being stupiditous in hers." Anyone can be a Shakespeare.

7. not a malapropism. it's a portmanteau

A malaprop is replacing one legitimate word for another ("If you aren't scared, we can precede"); a portmanteau is blending two or more words, as Lewis Carroll famously did in Through the Looking Glass. FWIW, a portmanteau is generally a conscious reshaping of the language, not an unconscious bastardization of it.

8. Corrected terms

Point taken. Smoke and fog equal smog. I do not, however, believe that Sarah was consciously trying to reshape the language anymore than I believe she has foreign relations credibility because Alaska is close to Russia. She is an idiot and her language usage supports my contention.
