Start off with Robert Reich seeming to embrace the current populism in the Democratic party but then he really doesn't

George Will first off carries the banner for the establishment in declaring that Edwards has to win (read:dominate) in Iowa or it is over.

He then illustrates that he doesn't seem to be aware of how well China is doing making all our crap for us (intellectual capital?)

then he states that "the economy will not be an issue" in the next election...and not one of them laughed. :eyes:

Crooks and Liars has a more expanded version.

2. Will in hardly irrelevant, and you misquoted him.
1. Edwards. Yes, I disagree with Will here. Edwards doesn't necessarily need a victory on Iowa to win, but he certainly needs to make an early splash somewhere or he's toast.

2. His mention of intellectual capital was in a domestic context only, and illustrated it with the mention of the growing disparity in income between high school and college grads.

3. He didn't say that the economy would not be an issue, he said it would not be the Number 1 issue. Considering how many enormous issues are out there (Iraq, Iran, North Korea, the moral decay of the GOP), it's not a big stretch to say that the economy will not be the number 1 issue.

3. He did say the economy will not be an issue...
George S. asked him if the economy would be the number one issue. He responded flatly that the 'economy will not be an issue'.

5. Okay
I can see your point on #1 though I disagree well I normally would but Edwards will be all but buried by Will and Rubin and his kind as soon as they can

I don't think he stated that as being in only the domestic capacity

He said that the economy will not be a factor

6. As you and another pointed out, ...
the question was as I stated it, but Will took if farther. I stand corrected.

7. Of course, that's before the hyperinflationary depression
due to set in just about any day now.

9. George Will Sure Reinforced the Notion of Republicans Being Out Of Touch
I guess the record home foreclosures, $3.00 + gallon of gas, falling wages, loss of our manufacturing base to foreign countries et cetera isn't part of "the economy".

:wtf:

Maybe he has a point, though.

Maybe collapsing bridges, China Lead-Based Painted Toy Products, Anti-Freeze in our toothpaste, The National Debt and the 45 million Americans without Health Care might trump everything else.

Or maybe Bush's failures on a global scale...who knows.

And oh, one more thing, when Mr. Will states that "the markets are screaming for Americans to stay in school, yet they don't" - he's letting us all know in no uncertain terms that he thinks the American people are too stupid to succeed and/or not rich enough to finish college. On the whole, Mr. Will thinks most Americans are stupid and lazy.

It is to laugh.
