2. Do you know what part of the country they are running the ad in?
I'm just asking because I haven't seen it. I'd love to see it running in Colorado.

3. the email didn't say - I have copied/pasted the entire email below for you:
Dear VoteVets.org Supporter,

I'm writing to let you know that we have a new television ad that starts airing this week - challenging John McCain to give America some straight talk, and tell us all the things that his plan for endless war in Iraq will make the American people sacrifice.

VIEW OUR NEW AD HERE

The ad features, for the first time, a female Iraq veteran and her small child. Rose Forrest served 12 months in Iraq, and gave birth to her little son, when she came home. In the ad, Rose challenges John McCain to tell the truth about what endless war means for her child, and all of our children. Senator McCain needs to give us some straight talk about how much endless war in Iraq is going to cost. We don't have an endless pot of money, or an endless supply of troops and equipment.

So what are Americans going to have to sacrifice if he has his way on Iraq? Health care? Decent jobs? Border security that all those National Guardsmen in Iraq could be performing? Rescue and cleanup after disasters like Katrina and tornados in Kansas and Tennessee? Are we going to have to sacrifice our chance to cripple Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda in Afghanistan? We can't do it all, but John McCain seems to pretend that we can.

VIEW OUR NEW AD HERE

We're airing this ad in the hopes that Senator McCain finally gets honest with the American people. We're putting it out there so that the media and power-brokers start to ask the same questions. Endless war in Iraq means drastic sacrifices for Americans in their everyday lives, and in terms of our own security.

It's all about priorities, and on this question, the wheels are falling off the Straight Talk Express.

This is just the beginning. In the coming months, we'll be on an all-out offensive, to expose the strategies that hurt us here at home and abroad in our fight against al Qaeda. We're going to challenge our leaders to get our global strategy right. You can count on us leading the way, but we cannot do it without you. So please, view our ad and pass it along to all of your friends and family. Together, we can change America's course.

Thanks for all of your support.

Sincerely,
Jon Soltz
Iraq War Veteran
Chairman, VoteVets.org

8. Amen
This is precisely what is driving Republicans to the Democratic Party.

Republicans are typically anti-welfare. But what they see is that the Iraq "war" has become a giant welfare program - for Iraqies!.

Love welfare or hate it, it's not hard to see that if you are going to spend for multi-trillion-dollar welfare programs we might as well spend it on Americans.

9. McCain...Proud Supporter of the Children's Crusade!
The bastard should realize, like almost every other vet does, that war is the LAST option, not the ONLY option...and BTW...being a POW is horrid, but it does NOT make one a hero automatically.

And so true! Rethugs are more committed to corps and, in words only, to other countries while ignoring us, the people.

16. McCain responds - VoteVets laughs:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/26/0409/34417/580/464191

Within hours, John McCain had his former lobbyist buddy campaign manager Rick Davis send out an email blast to the McCain base asking for money to defend against "all the usual liberal suspects" like "the liberal group VoteVets.org." Here's the email:

Dear Brandon,

Today we witnessed the first of the negative TV attacks that will be waged against John McCain. The liberal group VoteVets.org has begun airing an attack ad on cable television that flat out lies about John McCain's positions. And this is only the beginning.

National Liberal Democratic groups are rolling out their strategy for the General Election. It appears that the politics of "hope and change" are euphemisms for even more vicious attacks than we've ever seen before. All the usual liberal suspects; MoveOn.org, the Democratic National Committee, The New York Times and others are adding to the efforts under way by VoteVets and are plotting to spend over $20 million to smear John McCain. A line has been drawn in the sand.

The smoke and mirrors of the democrats' rhetoric betray the negative campaign tactics of their confederates. Now the shadowy 527 groups allied with them are spending unchecked millions. For them, it's not about what's best, it's all about winning. It is a sad day in our county's history that it has come to this.

We need your immediate help to combat this attack from the angry Liberal Left. There is nothing they will hold back, no limit to what they will spend, and we have to be ready to fight back and tell voters what we already know: that John McCain is the right person to lead our country on day one.

Please make an immediate contribution to help stop these attacks. The election is not until November, but these groups are already buying television ads to spread lies about John McCain. We have to prepare now so we have the resources to respond.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Rick Davis
Campaign Manager

P.S. We need your immediate help. Please make a contribution today so we can fight back against the Liberal Left that will stop at nothing to win.

The funny thing is, we haven’t even really gotten started yet. If John McCain considers it an "attack from the angry Liberal Left" when a soldier-mom and her one-year old son tell him that we don’t have unlimited money and an inexhaustible military, then he’s going to be really surprised when we actually start attacking his record on Iraq. Because it’s coming.

The 15,000 veterans of VoteVets.org didn’t attack John McCain today. We put him on notice. And as Jon Soltz said on VetVoice earlier today,

This is just the beginning.

17. What a brilliant ad, and what a tin-eared response from the McCain camp.
It just makes him look heartless.
