Christy Harvey (of The Center For American Progress and Miccheckradio.org) and Cenk talk about a new study that says immigration=safe neighborhoods.

PS---You can always watch the Show Live 3-5 pm ET, with a Rolling Post Game 5-7 pm daily Monday-Friday at www.theyoungturks.com The RPG often contains political talk but also many non-political topics to lighten things up (and yes, that audio may not necessarily be work-safe).

Also, if you can't watch live, the 3-5pm portion of the show (politics) streams the rest of the day, all day right after the Post Game Show ends leading up to the initial show at 3pm.

3. i left CA because of the violence problem, city closed the parks, fenced em in, because of violence,
gangs drugs, i had 2 friends stabbed walking down the street in daylight, 4 theirs attacked, no one i knew would go anywhere at night other in a car to a safe brightly lit mall area. know one i knew would walk anywhere, i left in 98, my brother was a police captain, he retired in 02 and lest CA the same day

i had to escort my 82 yr old mother shopping, she was afraid to go anywhere but Safeway downtown where it was considerably more expensive, because Mexican women..not all, dont flame me.. would run their carts into her ankles from behind. i was with her and say a Mexican woman bent over talking to her small boy, she was next to his ear pointing at my mother, she tapped the cart and he got that evil Little kid look and started 'running' the cart at my mother. he was about 4 feet from her when i steeped in front of it.. it bounced back and knocked him down.. the mother started screaming and i yelled pointing at the security camera, "they have you on tape telling him to attack my mother", she ran away.

at walmart a checker put the chain across between the isle and the closed sign on the belt, i was to the side getting ice, a Mexican woman was about 20 feet from the line, i saw her make an angry face, she dropped some things, climbed over the chain and swung her big purse as hard as she could and hit my mother in the head knocking her down. she ran off, i checked my mother then chased her, but she disappeared.

my friends stopped at a fast food place down town, i told them i didn't eat there, they asked why, i took them into the restroom, showed them the "Employees Wash Your Hands" sign.. it had shit wiped across it, obviously by hand. i was told it was done because of a militant movement that felt that sign was put there because whites thought Mexicans were dirty.
i saw that in many places in California,

i had relatives that put up 4x8 steel plates on the walls of the living room and bed rooms because of the Mexican gangs driving down their streets firing automatic weapons out both sides of their cars at high speed..

maybe it got better there.. i hope it did.

when we moved to Tennessee, a very isolated rural area, there was a family a block away whose 14 yr old daughter was raped and murdered by a mexican migrant, i doubt anyone will change their mind..

5. AZ has a lot of undocumented workers
The biggest thing I read and hear about here is hit and run accidents and that makes sense in a way. But that neighborhood you described sounds ridiculously bad... what part of CA is this?

7. Modesto, Turlock.. and Delhi which was a small town , jumped from15% to 90% Mexican, that is
where they fenced in the park with 8' chain link and Razor wire.. the schools increased 300% with Mexican students that didn't speak English or read in Spanish, it bankrupted the town.. they hired teachers that didn't speak English, because they couldn't find enough bi-lingual teachers. my nephew was graduated from high school, he couldn't read a newspaper, his 3rd grade sister read better, they quit teaching math and science.. he didn't know what a 1/4 inch was on a ruler. in 1998 they did an EXTENSIVE equivalency test.. 4 in 7 couldn't read well enough to fill out a job application. 2 in 7 were at grade level.

about a year after Ronald Reagan became Governor, i read an article said that if he was removed from office it would take at least 20 years to fix the schools back to where they were... the schools were broken, when the Mexican invasion happened it just destroyed, finished off the ruined system

i lived in central Central Valley..about 90 miles south of Sacramento/100 miles north of Fresno near hwy99..

you couldn't even find a minimum wage job.. massive unemployment, cost of housing became un-affordable/unfindable. a tiny 1 room studio apt in Sacramento jumped from 250 a month to $1200 a month, of course cheaper in crack town. it was a little cheaper in modesto, but everyone i knew had to have a room mate.. a really really good job was $8 an hour paying 800 for rent
in a small apt. i escaped to a national park job in CO just to get out a there

9. The Mexican invasion? I ran around Delhi before Reagan
and it was nothing to write home about. Two or three families milking everyone else. And now you're blaming Mexican workers?

Right.

6. kick
know what creeps me out?? corny white corporate suburbs with gobs of edge-city blighty shopping plazas and spoiled clueless gated communities.

To me, that's what Hell would look like.

Gimme them mixed inner city neighborhoods with urban pioneers and immigrants and hipsters and poor people and the occasional bad guy. It ain't as safe as the above mentioned gated community, but so fucking what.

I likes it on the Goode Olde East Side of Detroit.

My 2 cents

Thank you, suburbs are the most horrible nightmare urban wasteland, how people could live in those banal, sterile, strip-mall, auto-infested, horribly planned clusterfucks I will never get.

12. the American Dream.
have you seen 'The Century of Self'? The first episode 'Happiness Machines' is the story of the genesis of the suburban phenomenon. I watched it and it was like looking at the story of my life. The whole thing is unsustainable, based on cheap oil and cars.

And let me tell ya, cheap oil and cars is what made my city (Detroit) a powerhouse and later pulled it down into almost nothing.

But we still has us some good fun. But them suburbs...>shudder< that's some gruesome way of living.

13. Yep, actually I was watching century of self this evening.
I don't think I will ever see the appeal in this whole phoney "American Dream" suburb concept.

Guess I am a light sleeper, maybe its the sounds of the city. :smoke:
