Reason is.....

2010 is already upon us, and the elections will be here before we know it.
We want to retain and win as many seats as we can in congress,
in order to get the Democratic agenda through.
As we all are aware, the fewer Dems elected, the more difficult it will be
for the President to get his priorities (which are for the most part our priorities).

The point of the Democratic Underground is to support Democrats to elected office
against Republicans,
and we need to work to get that done.

Ignore those who have picked up the Media/GOP line that Democrats will experience massive losses,
because of historical trends....because if we buy into that (and many are)
it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy,
which is not one that we want to play out
because we have so little time,
and so much to rectify after 8 long years of darkness.
In fact, minimizing any losses is indeed a very serious endeavor,
not only for our nation, but also for the world.
That's how important and urgent this is!

So it is critical that we do what we can to insure that voter turn-out is not depressed
by the impending Doomsday naysayers who call themselves Democrats,
but who aren't truly working towards the best interest of the Democratic slate,
and in reality, for the betterment of the American People.

The simple truth is that the more of us there are,
the stronger we can be at affecting change out in the blogosphere and into the real world! :patriot:

Some days I can't help but think this has been a concerted, organized effort to ruin DU. Other days I think there's simply an inverse relationship between the IQ of the most hysterically vocal and the amount of their posts.

I find myself checking DU less and less these days. It used to be it was the first website I went to in the morning. Now I'll go if I feel like it, and even then I'm mostly looking and not reading, even here in the BOG. I'm just not as motivated to post. DU used to be a sanctuary from the attacks by Republicans, or by people who don't like Democrats -- even if their ideology is liberal and not conservative.

And you used to be able to disagree and have a debate without being completely flamed. That's not the case anymore. GD and GD: P are filled with flamewars, posts either have <0 recs or +1000. I've seen so many posts with a flamebait title and one line of text (hell, I saw a flamebait OP with a title and no text at all). These are usually followed by dozens or hundreds of people simply responding "+1 nt" "+1000000!!1 nt" "Unrec! nt" "K&R! nt"

My Donor Status runs until November, so I'm going to have plenty of them to see if I want to re-donate a few bucks to keep my access to the BOG. It'll depend on what the rest of DU looks like even if I'm not posting there.

There's quite a number of DUers who feel the same way. Most of the people (not all, but most) whom I don't respect due to the nature of their criticisms of Obama were people I found irritating anyway. I've only experienced a very few surprises.

In fact there's only one person whose name I have seen in this group with whom I didn't think I had anything in common, and that was quite a pleasant surprise.

I've seen a few people who seem to have found their DU voice in their criticism of Obama but whose political ideology I couldn't have defined prior to his election. Funny, that.

Ya do what ya gotta do, and I understand you completely. I've "left" DU at random intervals for periods of time through my participation here. It's a needed break occasionally.

But I think it's important to understand that at least some of this isn't even about politics. It's about personality. We have pricks among us. We may have given them a pass of sorts when they went off on their rants during the previous administration because we at least agreed with the intent behind their remarks, but they were still being pricks. That their personality disorders have carried over into the current administration is not all that surprising. It's just more obvious.

I was reading yet another PUMA site, far worse than most, however when thinking about what GDP and GD are becoming, I could name posters who fit both of these terms.

...Concern Troll = someone who posts on a board, forum, or article and says things like:

* “You know, I really like Scott Brown, but it’s Massachusetts, and even though he’s had a surge, it’s Massachusetts, so we should stop phone-banking or working hard and just give up. It’s Massachusetts”.

* “Oh, I’ve been so proud of how hard Hillary Clinton has been fighting, but there’s no way she’s going to win Ohio. This is the best board ever, and we all love Hillary, but I heard on MSNBC that Obama has it all sewed up, so for the good of the party she should just quit and drop out of the race. I like her, but I think we need to just give up now.”

* “You know, I didn’t like Sarah Palin at first, but then, wow, she gave a great speech at the convention and I think she has a good heart. Such cute kids, too! But, really, I hate to say she’s not ready yet to be Vice President, but she’s not. I think we just need to accept that and move on”.

Concern Trolls use a lot of “I Statements”, the kind bad therapists tell sociopaths to use more of so that they trick parole boards into releasing them. “I think”, “I feel”, “I believe”, etc. They have a three-pronged, four or five sentence max, little system:

(A) Establish some positive connection to whatever the thread is about, but using “I Statements” to say things like: “I like Scott Brown”, “I didn’t like Sarah Palin at first but”, “I’ve been so proud of Hillary Clinton”, etc. The example about Palin is good because one of the other things they try to do is establish some sort of false-honesty by seemingly admitting something to the board, so that they generate a fake credibility, among other oxymorons. “I didn’t like her at first, but, now I do, and I’ve thus established you can trust me because I shared that secret, now listen to me when I tell you to sit your butts home and let Democrats win. Otay? Buh-bye!”

(B) Tell everyone they all worked hard and note how impressed the troll is with all of you (“This is the best board ever!”), and then express “concern” that people are getting their hopes up too much and that people need to not waste their energy on the task at hand. “We’ve all worked hard, but now it is time to give up and do nothing so that Democrats can catchup and beat us”.

(C) Flat-out, using “I Statements”, tell everyone to just give up, but without making imperative statements that would come off as commands and piss people off. So, they don’t say, “You have to just stop and give up now so Democrats can win”. Instead, they say, “I think we’re all just really tired. We put up a good fight. But the Boston Globe poll says Coakley’s ahead by 15 points, and it is Massachusetts, so we should just all put our diapers on, sit in the corner, and fill them, all day, doing nothing productive, until someone can come and change us. That’s what I am going to do, and I have been the biggest supporter of our candidate ever. I love this board!”

Concern trolls are often, but not always, paid operatives who quite possibly work in little boutique PR and Public Strategies consulting firms in major cities. Chicago has DOZENS of these. We know — we’ve worked in these offices. Where do you think we learned everything we tell you?

Eeyores are different from Concern Trolls even if the end result is the same, to demoralize supporters of one candidate so the other candidate can win.

We came up with the term Eeyores to describe people in our ranks during the Clinton campaign who would depress other volunteers with their pessimism, negativity, and “there’s no way we can win!” nonsense. These are people who get all their news from CNN and MSNBC without realizing that CNN and MSNBC have agendas and deliberately lie to push them.

Eeyores LOVE emailing people negative articles. It’s sick, actually.....


...The key difference here is this: concern trolls WANT you to give up; Eeyores don’t want you to give up and don’t want the opponent to win, but don’t realize they are sabotaging all efforts you’re making.

Concern Trolls DELIBERATELY lower morale.

Eeyores lower morale unintentionally.

They just can’t shut their damn mouths and need to keep venting their pessimism, spreading their little black rainclouds everywhere. It’s frustrating.

Eeyores are actually FAR MORE DANGEROUS and harder to deal with, because they are often your friends. In our case, with Hillary Clinton, Eeyores were people we liked very much — but the time and energy it took to keep these people propped up, and to talk them down off ledges they got on whenever Tim Russert starting bellowing “Just quit already!” really distracted us from other things we needed to do.

It cost us AT LEAST three essays a day we could have written…about 100 phone calls a day we could have made…or just plain old sleep we missed because we were refuting, bit by bit, everything the MSNBC/CNN propaganda machine was putting out there to discourage Hillary’s voters and lower our turnout on election day.

Exhausting!

HillBuzz itself, this site, exists because of Eeyores, actually. It’s why we started this site, because the constant emails from 50 or so of these people on our list of 500 volunteers took so much time to address that we just started posting what we would have written to these people individually on this site. We never intended this to be a national site. It was strictly for Chicago Hillary volunteers, so we could share articles to refute what the MSM propaganda machine was doing, and to give people tips to fight Concern Trolls and combat Eeyorism in their own midst.

Evidently, there’s still a need for this, because here we are two years later and we’re still at it.

BTW - I understand this nasty man is still working with some Democrats in Chicago. If so, I can not understand why he has not been told to go away, far far away.

I haven't been on DU nearly as much lately for the obvious reasons--it is hard to stomach the lying twisted crap that is being spewed on a non-stop basis.

It is fairly easy to see that quite a bit of it is orchestrated by the same perpetrators. They will NOT succeed.

President Obama will just keep on getting the job done. Of course it will take longer than a year to move all the mountains of shit left by Bush; but if anyone can, it WILL be Obama. I am very happy with him. He is the same person that inspired me when I first met him at an Southern Illinois farm rally in October 2004.

I guess, as I am an old granny, I have a bit more patience than these instant gratification types. They would never have made it during the Great Depression. I grew up watching and listening to my grandparents who did survive that era. They were tough and realistic. A lot of people these days just seem to think everything can be solved overnight. They also seem to act like spoiled children when they don't get EVERYTHING they want--right now.

I will continue to strongly support our President and Democrats with what time and money I am able to spare. they continue to be our BEST and ONLY hope for a brighter future.

144. I'm here, but I'm not sure if I should be...

I'm not a Democrat and Obama's not my president, but I do get annoyed at some of the blame Obama for everything stuff I read in the big forums. The other thing is I'm critical of some decisions made by Obama's administration, so if there's folk here who just can't handle any criticism of Obama, they probably won't care for me much. The main thing is that while I do criticise when I feel it's deserved, I'm totally opposed to any calls for people not to vote Democrat next time yr elections roll around, and I'm opposed to anyone who works to try to defeat Obama or talks about him the same way they'd talk about Bush. I think some people aren't giving him a chance and make the mistake of thinking Obama can actually fix all the woes of the world and make it a perfect socialist utopia even though I don't recall him ever campaigning as being anything but a rather centrist leftwinger, much like Australia's current PM, Kevin Rudd...

Anyway, if this isn't the place for me, just give me a tap on the shoulder and I'll vanish...
