"CNN (The Most Trusted . .haha): Blacks no longer thrilled with President Obama"

You think Chuck Todd is bad well his deputy, Paul Steinhauser, is even funnier.

CNN in their menu page shows the bullet points for their politics page as follows

*The return of terror politics
*Poll: For blacks, Obama 'thrill' is gone
*White House 'money hunk' engaged
*DeMint defends TSA block
*Public option may be dropped
*Poll: Pelosi, GOP lawmakers 'losers'
*Napolitano says system didn't work

Clicking on the story that shows the President no longer 'thrills' blacks you find this story;

Poll: Obama still very popular among African-Americans, but 'thrill is gone'

Washington (CNN) -- African-Americans are extremely supportive of President Obama, but their enthusiasm appears to have dramatically dropped from earlier this year, according to a new national poll.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, released Tuesday, also indicates that Obama's presidency appears to have made blacks more optimistic about race relations, but less than one in five believe the new president has ushered in a new era of race relations in the country.

More than nine in 10 blacks questioned in the poll approve of the job Obama's doing in the White House, far higher than 42 percent of whites who approve of his performance as president.

But when asked how they personally feel about Obama's presidency, only 42 percent of black respondents say they're thrilled, with nearly half of those questioned saying they are happy but not thrilled.

The 42 percent who are thrilled is down from 61 percent in January, when Obama was inaugurated.

1) I guess it was a legitimate sociological question to ask African Americans if they were thrilled on innauguration day, it would also be OK to ask catholics the same question on JFK's election. However charachterizing their enthusiasm as being "dramatically down" is well, stupid. "Thrill" is not the same as "Enthusiasm". I suppose that the number of Catholics that are still thrilled with JFK's election has declined as the "thrill" of a new historic event becomes no longer new or historic.

2) To continue to use "thrilled" as a political science parameter after the newness of the innauguration is rather silly and they should go back to the standard support, strongly support, etc.

3) If they are going to track "thrillness" then they should not hold back but go full out paternalistic and ask if blacks break out into spontaneous tap dancing and singing of beautiful harmonic gospel versions of "Swing Lo Sweet Chariot" everytime the President appears on TV.

Oh and about that whole "Most trusted name" BS. You qualify that with full time cable news services which means that you barely score better (and some surveys show you losing) to the worst news outlet in the history of TV.

If you open it up to the most trusted in the news business, that is this guy

http://www.starzlife.com/20090725/jon-stewart-considered-nations-most-trusted-news-source-without-a-hint-of-sarcasm/

A Time magazine poll recently asked which news anchor was the most trusted, and Jon Stewart from The Daily Show came in first place with 44% of the vote.

The result comes as quite a shock as The Daily Show even calls itself a ‘fake news show’.

Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News came in second with 29% of the vote, Charlie Gibson of ABC received 19% and poor old Katie Couric proved that no one trusts a woman, receiving only 7%

As a white guy under 6 feet that once lived in Stewarts home state of New Jersey, I am officially "thrilled".

1. As an African-American, have always hated "blacks"-type polls.
I find them insulting, as though "blacks" are supposed to be just one large, and apparently infantile, group that moves, thinks and breathes together as one big wave.

CNN has long been on my "Clown News Network" list.

I agree with all the points the OP makes.

3. Quiet American you're BLACK??!
How come I didn't know that??! But I'm trying to figure out if that explains why 9 times out of 10 whenever I see your posts, I find myself nodding my head and yelling "exactly!" at my monitor?? :)

Please come visit us in the African American group. In fact, I'd love for everyone from the BOG to come and hang out in AAIG. As can be expected, it's a very small group but we are easily some of the coolest, smartest people on DU. :) http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=258

7. Did they ask old white ladies if they were thrilled with Obama?
Was it really a poll question? Because I'm pretty sure I would have said yes, if they had asked me, which they didn't.

8. The word "thrilled"
To even use the word "thrilled" shows that they are grasping at a headline before they even did the poll. The standard in polls seems to be whether one approves or disapproves of the job the President is doing. This was a little push polling so they could play down the over-all approval rating.

CNN is sickening.

9. Semantics? That's all CNN has left? Why don't we parse a few more words.
Are you thrilled with CNN's lack of journalistic integrity? I know what my answer would be.

11. Thanks for posting this over here
mdmc has a post over on GDP that kinda relates to this.

Amazing the difference between poll numbers and reality. I live in a black community. I am active in my community and I can tell you the thrill IS NOT gone.

14. Perhaps they should have asked why they would feel less thrilled
I'm afraid this may come out wrong, so if you want to disagree with me feel free to do so.

As an old white woman with children of mixed ethnic heritage, I would have said that I am less thrill due to the behavior of the congress (fellow Democrats and republicans), the MSM coverage of events and their right wing slant on the news, the reaction of people who think that Obama should have been able to immediately change the world/country and fix all the problems that have been building over the last thirty years, and because of the fact that racism has become more acceptable nation wide.

I knew racism was there, we all have lived with it for all of our lives, but it now seems to have become an accepted political tool and no one should care that it has. No more than I would accept/appreciate sexism if Hillary had gotten elected do I think any of us should accept this type of racism and I believe that people who are especially effected by it would lose some of the thrill they had felt because I sure have. I think some of these questionable news people should have to hold a mirror when they say these things just to see how stupid they look. JMHO
