Mendocino County Hopes To Legalize Marijuana
Mendocino County Hopes To Legalize Marijuana

ABC-7 KGO News

Jun. 11 - So much illegal marijuana is being grown and seized in Mendocino County, that supervisors there are now calling for its legalization. Four of the county's five supervisors have now sent a letter to Washington D.C. urging the federal government to legalize and regulate marijuana as it does alcohol. They argue that legalizing the drug would give officials more control over where it's grown, its distribution and its use.

*** - I'd like to help those folks in Mendocino County out. Just tell where this pesky stuff is growing and I'll take it from there.....

6. Alcohol and tobacco are taxed enormously ...

... and I don't see health care for everyone yet. Despite the rationalization that such taxes offset the damage incurred, it's likely that such taxes far exceed those damages and are, at this point, mere opportunism. I know of no fund where an injured party can obtain relief. So, the public actually demonstrates no interest in directly compensating individuals for any damages they incur from the use/abuse of such substances and merely exploits such claims of damage.

17. Also, I happen to think alcohol & nicotine are far more detrimental than pot could ever aspire to be
and that's not just because two are legal and one is not. Value judgments aside, I honestly believe alcohol and nicotine are far more dangerous drugs; the first because it makes people violent, stupid, or violently stupid, and the second because it's carcinogenic and extremely difficult to quit.

5. Wait two years, maybe even longer. The Bush White House won't allow it.
And a good number of middle-of-the-road Democrats won't either.

8. It's the booze companies that are against it
With cheap marijuana as the recreational drug of choice, liquor companies would lose the most.

I believe it was partially the liquor lobby that originally got pot banned in the first place.

13. The liquor companies never saw me party, back in the day.
Pot and booze were hardly mutually exclusive. In fact, I always thought they complemented each other rather nicely.

12. This is the way it has to start.
Now if only more localities would jump on the bandwagon. Maybe a few homerule cities too.

14. Well past fucking time, too. Prohibition is a giant joke.
I don't even smoke it anymore, but just about everybody else and his bastard brother Bob here in Northern California does. It's absurd. Just legalize, regulate, and tax it already. Enough.
