Code Pink Occupying Rahm Emanuel's office...need help.
I saw the alert posted in this thread about Maria Leavey on Daily Kos. Karendc created a terrific video about how women are 'momming' our government. Please Join the swarm, watch the video, and join us in parenting our Congress. All of us know right from wrong and it's time that they learn it too.

(UPDATE and message)

from Tina Richards:

Immediate Action is required: Join the Swarm from home.
We are currently occupying Rahm Emanuel's office in DC and we need calls and faxs sent ASAP to demand the end of the occupation.

Washington D.C. office call 202-225-4061 or fax to 202-225-5603.

Something you can do...

9. Really, does it? I really don't think so anymore. Not at all. I try, I really try
to believe, but you know, I'm just really starting to believe there is absolutely nothing we can do to stop this out of control train.

Nothing at all.

Not until everyone there is walks away from building bombs and weapons. Then and only then will we stand a chance.

8. I called too
So i just called Rahm's office to support the swarm. The woman, very nice, asked me if I wanted to receive an e-newsletter, since I am so interested.

I replied that I already get a great amount of news and information from the Rep.'s office and that I was calling to give some information TO him.

The American people want this war to END. NOW.

The folks in his office are also sending information TO him.

We all get a lot of information FROM the offices. They really should not be surprised at information coming back in. That is called participatory democracy~!

So call--tell them that information OUT is nice, but they need to accept feedback and information IN.

The person was very polite and said she would pass my comments on to Congressman Emanuel.

I asked for the Dems to do what's right and end the occupation of Iraq and there's no way I'm going to be supporting Hillary when she carrying on about having a military presence in Iraq for the next ten + years.

Edited on Tue Jun-12-07 10:25 PM by mzmolly
That's what's dumb. We need 60 votes, we have a 1 vote majority with Lieberman in the Senate, that means we need about 11 MORE on the Republican end.

The legislative proposals will probably fall short of the 60 votes needed to pass controversial legislation under Senate rules. Many GOP members say they are willing to wait until September before they call for change, giving the president's new strategy of Iraq a chance to work.

Same people on every thread about Code Pink or Tina Richards. "Why don't they bug the Republicans?" "Why aren't they in Republicans' offices?"

And no matter how many times they are told that CP DOES indeed do these same actions to Republicans, no matter how many times videos and articles are posted showing CP lobbying Republicans, these same DUers ask the same questions every fucking time. :grr:

81. First of all
They have been addressing the Gonzales issue for days and weeks, attending hearings and giving input. From the DC Codepink Blog:

Senate No Confidence on Gonzales Vote
Starting at 10am, CODEPINK visited every Senate office handing them copies of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales dressed in a “pink slip” with a message "Pink Slip Gonzales: Vote No Confidence."

Secondly, watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yc4kEGk6pU

It helps to hear the women speak for themselves about why they do what they do.

Thirdly, this just in:

Senator Joe Lieberman to Meet with Peace Activists on Thursday

CODE PINK and other activists will be meeting with Senator Joe Lieberman (D.,
Pentagon) on Thursday June 14th at 4:30 pm in his Washington D.C. office (706 Hart)
to talk about Iran.

Sen. Lieberman recently spoke in support of using military force in Iran. Leslie
Angeline, who recently returned from a Global Exchange trip to Iran, started a
hunger strike after she heard Lieberman's threats of an attack.

Activists went to Lieberman's office Tuesday with about 30 people and asked for a
meeting. Wednesday they returned planning to spend the whole day there, and were
told they could meet with the Senator on Thursday.

Why swarm this office? Why not LIEberpig's?

Why not target a devout Bush loyalist whose seat is up for grabs in '08?

They are plenty better targets than Rahm's office.

Medea Benjamin (415) 235-6517

Message to Senator Joe Lieberman: Don't Bomb Iran!
Women Hold Sit-In & Hunger Strike in Senator's Office

WASHINGTON - JUNE 12 - Outraged by Senator Lieberman's comments on CBS on Sunday about wanting to bomb Iran, CODEPINK Women for Peace will hold a sit-in and hunger strike in the Senator's office to demand that he retract his call for a military attack on Iran.

In response to Lieberman's words on CBS, "I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," CODEPINK will sit-in the Senator's office until they receive a meeting. Leslie Angeline, 50, of Santa Rosa, CA, a CODEPINK member who upon returning from an Iran peace delegation, has made it her mission to stop any attack on Iran, will be sharing photos and stories from her recent trip to Iran. CODEPINK has also alerted their national membership of 200,000—including thousands of members in Connecticut—to make calls to Lieberman's office in support of Leslie's call to stop any attack on Iran.

WHEN: Tuesday June 12, 9am until the group receives a meeting with the Senator
WHERE: Senator Lieberman's Office- 706 Hart Office Building
PHOTO OPPS: Pink visuals, signs, chorus of women in pink singing "Don't Bomb Iran" (Originally performed for Sen.McCain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTEBjPCNBbc)

"Last night when I heard that Lieberman said he thought we should have military action against Iran, I decided to start a hunger strike. I won't eat until Lieberman meets with me. 70% of the Iranian population is under the age of 30—the age of my son. Iran is a country of warm, kind, and generous children and their families. We cannot start bombing these kids," says hunger-striker Leslie Angeline who recently returned from a Citizen Diplomacy delegation to Iran organized by the international human rights organization, Global Exchange with CODEPINK. Upon returning from the trip, Leslie became determined to keep America from going to war in Iran, and booked her next flight to DC.

CODEPINK visited the senator's DC office Monday, June 11 with a coalition of anti-war groups from around the country. The group asked that they be able to meet with Sen. Lieberman to discuss his comment but the group was denied a meeting.

CODEPINK women and men from around the country will continue their political pilgrimage to Congressional hearings, member offices and hallways to demand an end to the illegal US military occupation of Iraq and any future wars. The group is holding week-long summer trainings for the next 2 months in DC. Visit www.codepinkalert.org

72. Because Rahmbo is
at heart a banker, a tool of the corporations who are profiting from the military industrial (bullshit) complex:

Top Contributors to Rahm Emanuel (D) During the 2006 Election Cycle
Rank

Donor Amount (US Dollars)
Medline Industries $ 21,000
Goldman Sachs $ 18,800
Avenue Capital Group $ 16,000
Citigroup Inc $ 15,750
Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal
$ 15,450

PAC Contribution Breakdown
Business $466,500 (74.2%)
Labor $141,750 (22.5%)

Ideological/Single Issue $20,775 (3.3%)

A tool of big business. Big business is the bunch of crooks cashing in on the war and who own by far the biggest piece of Rahmbo...

He's also the 2nd most powerful person in the House...

That's why...

59. In response to the nonstop repetition
Edited on Tue Jun-12-07 10:15 PM by karendc
of the questions about why women go after both Dems and Repubs:

Please do try watching the video, in which some of those questions might be answered.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yc4kEGk6pU

In fact, I MADE the video to address precisely those questions.

Then come back here and we can discuss the issues...

74. Beautiful work
A very telling statement "we will be there to remind (the Congress) that they're the reason that people are still fighting and dying out there"

If no one reminded them they'd think they were doing all they could ... and they'd continue to surrender to the forces of darkness at 1600 Penn. Ave.

Right on, Code Pink!

79. Thanks ProudDad
It is a hard thing to explain to people, but there truly is a bubble and the Members spend a great deal of time inside of it. The bubble is not empty either; it has lots of noise and many meetings, encounters, deals, and promises in there. When I go into the office buildings, I am reminded of what closed off places look like. I am entering into THEIR world and it's a strange one.

For example, what I wear matters. If I am in a suit or dressed up, I can get face time with a staffer, and we politely discuss the issues. S/he takes notes, and I promise to follow up with them in a few weeks, which I do. It is all very civilized. Sometimes, a bill is even introduced, or an amendment added.

But if I go in wearing pink, with a group of others wearing antiwar t-shirts, we are followed around by the police, questioned regularly, and met with hostility. Now that may seem like justice to you reading this, but keep in mind that 1. we are citizens petitioning our government, 2. we are armed only with information, and 3. every actual meeting I have ever had or witnessed with Members has resulted in a sharing of the real concern they ALL have about this war. In other words, the system actually appears to work: we HAVE been heard. But the concern does not last and WE are maligned. I am convinced that once they are back inside the bubble we penetrated, they forget and they discount us.

When I am sitting across from a staffer, or even running into a Member at the grocery store (which happens folks, they DO eat and occasionally need a quart of milk), I know they know that I represent hundreds of thousands, if not millions of voices who want this war to be over, NOW. They know these folks vote. But I think that once they are back on the floor, they get into the deal-making and trade-offs and they literally forget what they felt or understood. They are back into the rites and rituals and that's when they need the reinforcement of message from more voices.

That's why faxing and calling WORKS. If everyone who felt strongly about this war, or health care, or the environment, or corruption called and gave a BRIEF but factually-based message, this war would end. Messaging in is critical, putting faces to the facts is critical, staying on top of the information is critical.

The stakes are much higher every day and we can't afford to go through those civilized rituals all the time. They are fine for increasing funding for community-based after-school programs and other non-controversial issues. This illegal war and this criminal administration do not fall under the category of civilized rituals. They must be STOPPED. And as Ann Wrigt says in the video, we will be there every day to remind Congress of that fact.
