Snopes calls hate crime talking points false!
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 05:43 AM by BR_Parkway
In the ever endless bleating of the RW noise machine over hate crime legislation, one theme is repeated over and over - that passage will take away the preacher's ability to share the Word....

Even Snopes.com has had enough of the falsehood:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/sexuality/hatecrime.asp

Hate Crimes Prevention Act

Claim: A bill before Congress would make it a "hate crime" for pastors and churches to speak against homosexuality.

Status: FALSE

2. It should be true...Jesus never said a word about hating homos...
I just can't find it in my New Testament. He did however talk about how bad Republican values of greed and selfishness are and how Republicans cannot get into heaven.

4. now, now. stop beating up republicans with your mythology
Jesus said to love them, too, and not that tough love stuff either.
He meant, true compassionate respect, as you would love yourself.

If you understood and beleived in the Testament you're quoting from, you'd also see the problems with thinking that you're qualified to say whether another person can or can not get into heaven.

I tell you, all this exclusivity is what got us into the trouble we're in today.

:hurts:

3. Maybe it's too early in the morning,
but I think Snopes is correct. I interpret it as saying that the bill will not take away the preacher's ability to share the Word.

Will a bill before Congress make it a "hate crime" for pastors and churches to speak against homosexuality. Snopes - FALSE (ie. no)

6. a preacher can rail against homosexuality, but
the only thing I'd question would be his commitment to Christianity.

7. Thanks
I've got this in my back pocket waiting to do a Reply All when I get this one. I love doing a "Reply All" to these and then stating the facts. Of late, I'm getting a few "undeliverable" messages saying that the recipient has refused email from you. (I think on AOL accounts.) I guess that's the electronic equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and saying, "lalalalala...".
