1. What's not to trust about a politician changing parties everytime the going gets a little rough...
Honestly...I find that very hard to support.

16. He changed parties just so he could run for mayor
Granted that's not great party loyalty but at the same time, the most important thing is what he stands for.

He gives tons of his money away, and still has so much he can't be bought.

4. But do you honestly think he'd really be in favor of intense regulation?
Yes, he's got lots of money, but he's also got lots of moneyed corporate friends.

20. don't understand the question
My point was that Bloomberg's green plan for the city can't be welcomed by big business, yet he's pushing it anyway. He's pro-life, pro gun control, pro-gay marriage - never needed and never wanted Republican backing as far as i can see.

He is a secular progressive - Bill O'Reilly's worse nightmare.

17. I don't think his moneyed friends care that much about a congestion tax....
(which I happen to think is a good idea, BTW), because it won't cause them much pain. It's the everyday types who drive in and out of Manhattan that wouldn't be too keen on it, I would assume.

34. That's what they said about Schwarzenegger out here in California
He has taken oodles and oodles of money from his corporate friends -- bought and sold. He does just enough good to prevent the liberals majority in California from rocking the boat and kicking him out. He would not be governor now had the Democrats found a candidate with a bit of charisma during the last California election for governor.

5. I don't trust him. Democrat -> Republican -> Independent
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 08:18 AM by mcscajun
Whenever the political wind doesn't suit him, he changes tack and does as he pleases.

He's running, and he'll be a formidable force throwing his petty cash around.

33. His "beliefs" have led him to donate to conservative Republicans
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 09:45 AM by mcscajun
including John McCain, to endorse(!) George Bush's 2004 re-election bid(!) and most recently, to endorse Lieberman in his own "independent" run.

He may hold many liberal positions, yet I still don't trust him.

Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 08:40 AM by Tarheel_Dem
Sorry, but I don't trust someone who jumps ship depending on whichever way the political winds are blowing. Bloomberg may be a great guy, but I think he's an opportunist extraordinnaire. You need look no further than Norm Coleman & Joe Liebermann for proof.

No Thanks...

30. I Would Much Rather Have an Independently Wealthy Businessman
with a track record of liberalism and charity than a politician financially dependent on corporate PACs.

Top executives in the finance industry are often Democrats. Unlike other industries, they are forced to see the whole economic picuture, including that of the average consumer. Accepting your own spin means disaster.

I don't know enough about Bloomberg, but New Yorkers seem to like him. I would not in any way rule him out.

...he's really making with his old cronies. If he just claims that his party left him, then I won't be convinced. He must have a change of heart to be ready to govern.

i really do not know enough about him to say one or the other but the party switching bothers me, once i can understand but switching again? Did he become unaffiliated because he's really not happy with either party or did he do it because as a group the gop is not polling well?
