I just met a repug... It seemed she was happy that she didn't have
to pay as much in taxes during these last 6 bushwacked years.... In return she felt like torture was ok. She felt that no child left behind was the best program ever, and a lot of other crap. I told her the only true Republican candidate you have is Ron Paul... and he's a true repub.. the rest are right-wing corporate neo-cons who want to gobble up as much money and power that they can. I told her a true Republican would not support no child left behind. And a true American would not support torture.

I am disgusted... I can't believe I know someone who would support torture. I feel disgusted. This came up because I said I'm looking at law school. I would eventually like to venture into politics. I figure its the best way to credential myself and really know the law, since I don't have deep pockets or am in the inside. Anyway, it started by party alignment, and then I was accused of being one of those that give hand outs...Hello, this war just handed out billions to halliburton and bush. co...

I'm so disgusted.

1. Yeah, Ron Paul
certainly has the white supremacist part of the GOP nailed down pat.

the one that is most repug..

but what really disgusted me was the torture... I feel sick to my stomach. How wretched of a human being can you be to actually support torture.

3. Some people are not worth arguing with
Anyone who thinks torture is okay is morally and logically deficient. This is part of the 20% who will not be swayed no matter what.

5. I guess it just surprised me. I've never known someone who actually
supported torture. Most repugs will say, bush ruined our party, blah, blah, blah, but I've never met someone who actually endorsed it. And even said to me "come on, you don't think its not happening to us".. No its not happening to me, and I would never want it too.. neither does anyone else.

I guess that maybe some people aren't stupid enough to mention their bigoted hatred.

4. Hey, I've paid less in car payments the last 6 years!!!
Of course, I haven't bought a car in the last 6 years.

:P

These folks who are so happy to pay less taxes (sic) seem to be oblivious to the fact that there are fewer services and a higher national debt.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

6. This woman lives in SC... and I realized something.. my in-laws
all say, we register republican, but we don't vote that way... Wonder what will happen when I run. I think I'm the first registered dem they have ever had in their family.. even my husband is a registered repug. (of course I tell him who to vote for--hopefully he listens).. Hmm.

7. Law school?
to "know" the law? Or to venture into politics?

Been there. Done that. Have the credentials and a couple of bar licenses.

You really need to know what you're getting into before you do it. More often than not, law school and the legal profession are very different than what is commonly perceived. That is not necessarily bad. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

17. I know... That's why I have put off deciding the second step for so
long. By the time I get into either a grad or law school I'll be 29 or 30... And then I have two to 4 yrs of study. I know, its not glamorous, its a lot of reading and details.... but I figure, if I want to make law, I should really know it, not just sound bite my way through.

9. "pay less in taxes"... ask her how she feels about the $30K of debt her kids owe just for being born
As for torture... if she's a good Bushie repub, I assume she's a church-going christian. Ask her who would Jesus torture?

Actually, In Search Of Sanity is right. Don't bother arguing with people like that. It's better to just laugh along with them, then say "oh, you're serious!?" then laugh even harder as you walk away. Saves a lot of stress on your part, and drives 'em batshit crazy.

10. Is she equally happy that what little taxes she is paying are used to kill innocent people, or does
she care, one way or the other? I can't even wrap my mind around that idea that she thinks torture is okay. :wow:

11. unless she is making 6 figures, odds are her tax bill didn't change
of course, to be fair, she may have actually had to pay less money to the IRS. Not as a percentage. Just because a lot of people are making less than they did...

12. There are a lot of otherwise "nice" people out there
who support torture in the ticking bomb fiction and the sad thing is that they think it will work on a fanatic who is not afraid to die in the blast. They honestly believe torture nets the truth instead of a series of wild goose chases.

I guess the only answer to these ignorant saps is to ask them how much torture it will take for them to accept Islam.

Or even a relative. It's so shocking it just turns the world upside down.

15. Sometimes it can be a good thing, too
My father told me just before he died that he no longer believed "any of that Sunday school crap."

His passing was very peaceful without fear of judgment or hell.

It still shocked the shoes off me that first, he'd turned into a skeptic; and second, he'd tell me about it.

13. If you're looking at getting into politics, get used to dealing with these people amicably.
You'd better stop being disgusted now and start working on trying to get them to see your point of view, or your career will be very short lived. She was not a unique example of what you'd have to deal with.

19. I know.... and I couldn't get to her. I debate so many people, and
I can usually get them to see something, or admit there is some wrong... I guess my optimism is too high, I like to think better of people.. but there are some people who won't budge.

18. I no longer mince words.
Americans don't torture. Anyone who advocates torture shouldn't be an american. Period.

There are plenty of tin pot tyrants who would be happy to have them as loyal subjects.
