Notes and Quotes

Give the WSJ to Murdoch

"Since its creation by the so-called Oslo Accords of 1993, the PA has garnered more international aid than any entity in modern history ..."
- Michael Oren, in a commentary published in the Wall Street Journal, June 20, 2007.

Reliable recent figures are hard to find, but Israel receives more foreign funding than the PA by an order of magnitude. These are rough numbers:
- From 1994 to 2004, the US, European Union and Japan provided the PA with about $2.9 billion;
- Estimates of the total of US grants and loan guarantees to Israel for 1997 alone range from $3.1 billion to $6.5 billion.

Oren and/or the Wall Street Journal would no doubt respond that this funding for Israel is not what is meant by "international aid". ATol would respond to that by saying this is the type of propaganda that Rupert Murdoch-run media excel in, and the Bancroft family need have no fear about the WSJ's editorial direction under Murdoch ownership. - AQ
