Another woman accuses De Anza ballplayers of rape (in the same house)
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 01:02 PM by progressoid
A young woman has reported that De Anza College baseball players sexually assaulted her at a party months before members of the team were accused of raping another woman at the same house.

"The sheriff's department is aware of the allegation and will look into it," said Sgt. Ed Wise of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department, adding that deputies take rape allegations seriously.

The fact that the allegations involve the same house is "frightening," Wise said.

Sources close to the investigation say the woman came forward with claims she was raped in December only after sheriff's deputies began checking a 17-year-old girl's report that she was assaulted at the house in unincorporated San Jose in March. Investigators said Monday that they first heard rumors about the December party with the players and the woman, who was 18 to 21 years old, during interviews while following up on the March case.

It was unclear Monday whether the same group of men are involved in both reports. Wise said the two incidents potentially share some of the same suspects.

2. oh she's probably just lying
I mean - those other girls got so much attention, she probably just wanted some, too.

After all, boys on college sports teams who drink to excess and have a reputation for being somewhat rowdy would never ever do something like that.

Besides, the college - and the town that depends on it - have reputations (not to mention $$income$$) to consider. They can't let some little chippy/slut besmirch their reputations, now can they?

7. It's good that the Sheriff's Dept is keeping this case open
I hope that the state AG can push these rape cases farther, at least into a grand jury.

8. Isn't Jerry Brown the AG in
CA? These little rich boys need to go to prison and see what the real world is like. Karma is something to behold.

9. Karma indeed
Someone said in another thread that it's been before the grand jury. I admit I don't know much on this case, only the couple of stories I've seen posted today.

I hope justice is served in the end.

12. I first read about this case on
a feminist website and I didn't read anything about the case even going to a grand jury....maybe now with a second woman coming forward, it will.

Sometimes I really wonder how those violated keep from getting 'street justice'...if you know what I mean.

11. I lived less than 2 miles from there for 10 years.
I was nearly adjunct faculty there - until my 'circumstances' changed. . I attended concerts at the auditorium. The Jamba Juice right across the street was one of my frequent stops. I watched swimming meets there. I was on that campus more times than I can count.

It's a VERY diverse (lots of Asians, mostly Japanese-Americans and immigrants) and very liberal - it's in Mike Honda's District. It was one of the most crime-free areas I've ever lived in ... and the students at De Anza were hard-working, diverse, and up-beat on average. It's NOT obsessive about sports ... fairly well-balanced.

I find this very disturbing. It's a culture that I regarded as relatively non-sexist, even though Japanese cultural habits do tend to relegate women to secondary places. But those same cultural habits tend to also emphasize civil behavior ... even in nisei and sansei. Cupertino public schools are among the very highest in the entire Bay Area.

This story bothers me ... it's about a place I're really loved.
