In our corner of the universe anyway (with 113 votes cast).

Yes, I share the sentiment of many that GORE + anyone would be a fantastic development. Though on DU anyway, Wes Clark wins.

Hope the poll helped with your decision karl :)

karl you said: Not sure what that means...

It means tons actually. Wes has heartland appeal and I believe would have cross over appeal to any red stater. Of course, there is that 26% of Bushies that have already drank the kool-aid.

Gore/Clark is still my dream ticket. Though I think Wes in the VP slot is a good choice no matter what (provided he remains on the bench for President).

* * * * *

As an aside --- if by chance you follow the NBA --- the Sonics new owner, Clay Bennet, is rumored to be planning to move our NW team to your fair state:) Of course, we Washingtonians are not at all happy with that idea. The NBA still would have to OK the move. The battle brews...

Happen to know what are they saying in the Sooner state about getting an NBA team --- specifically Seattle's NBA team?

I can't figure out Oklahoma. We have WAY more Democrats than Republicans and a mostly Dem state gov't but people go for the pugs to represent (?) us in D.C. It really pisses me off. Of course the primary I mentioned was only for Dems to vote in and what I meant was I can't calculate how much crossover appeal Wes would have in a general.
I agree with you about Gore/Clark though! :toast:

I can't see Hillary wanting to be VP with ANY candidate. If she doesn't get the nomination, she'll go back to the senate. She still has a great future as a Senator if she doesn't become President.

17. Edwards is probably the best bet, Clark is wasted in the VP spot
If we're going to run the general, put him on the top of the ticket. Otherwise, save him for a cabinet position after the election.

Gore/Edwards maximizes the WASPy southern gentleman mystique at the same time it plays the policy wonk trump card. Edwards is going to be billed as too inexperienced and rash for the top slot, but has a lot of charisma to work with (if he can avoid the insinuations of homosexuality the media so desperately want to apply to him). Edwards would compensate for a lot of Gore's perceived shortcomings in physical appeal without overshadowing him.

22. go read some of the articles again, it's not just about being a "hair priss"...
I dunno how you missed the insinuations, it was a pretty obvious subtext at the time, but if you're right about the homophobes disregarding them too, it's definitely good news for Edwards.

21. I doubt that Gore would pick Edwards.....because that would only serve
to remind voters of "losing" prior Dem tickets.

Al Gore can use the fact that he actual won the popular vote in 2000 in his favor. However, putting Edwards on the ticket would bring in the drag that 2004 wasn't won either the popular or the electoral vote. Further, Gore on Iraq can talk freely about how we got in as well as how to get out.....with Edwards on the ticket, that becomes much trickier (cause discussing the initial getting in opens a can of worms for Edwards). Plus Edwards was already VP nominee last time, and I doubt that he would want to do that again.

25. good points, but I still think Edwards is the best pick
In balance, I think his positives will outweigh the negatives. I think Edwards would rather run as VP than be shut out of the ticket entirely, and even the "losing" ticket of 2004 can be used to advantage in 2008. Now that "swift boating" has become nearly synonymous with "baseless character assasination", and the electoral corruption of Ohio and Florida are becoming common knowledge, reminding voters of past tickets might not be a problem. And on Iraq, his out is to remind people that the administration "misinformed" congress as often as possible, and speak to the importance of honesty and forthright nonpartisan cooperation between the branches of government.

Don't get me wrong, your points are valid -- I think he'd rather be on top of the ticket, the 2004 race and Iraq are going to be issues for him in either slot. But I still think he's the best match for Gore, in this hypothetical scenario.

31. Wow, the 1st choice was my pick exactly
Even though Obama, Clinton and Edwards are formidable, a Gore/Clark ticket would be an unbelievable combination. Dynamite.

Both of them excellent orators. Both of them supremely qualified for public office. Both of them with DECADES of experience.

The RW is terrified of Clark (no skeletons in his closet).

And Gore has the public's respect, an Oscar and several awards for his work in environmental and technological achievements. Plus the fact that many consider him to be cheated out of the presidency last time. Big-time sympathy there, IMHO.

No-brainer.

ugh!! A Republican and DiFi representing this state? We'd drop to a big low here!

I'd rather see someone like Feingold be in and have Wisconsin's governor pick a Dem to replace him! :)

Either that or if you really want this option, find some instance where Schwarzenegger really screws up trying to live up as a "moderate" governor and screwing things up and then we can do a recall and get DiFi to run instead for governor where she could nominate her own replacement, and then a replacement for Boxer should she also decide to run on the presidential ticket.
