About the Fairness Doctrine that was voted down decisively
Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 12:04 PM by eagler
today. Did you know that a while back Randi Rhodes was going to be put on opposite Limbaugh but he protested and the decision was reversed. This cuts to the heart of the matter. We don't need a fairness doctrine that stifles competition but we do need one that guarantees it. We forget that the airways don't belong to the corporations or the government, but to the people. As it is today corporations control everything we hear. It is not a matter of free competition as they say it is, it is a matter of squelching competition in the name of freedom of speech. If things were as they are today there would have been no Murrow or Cronkite. I can almost guarantee that attempts to control the web aren't too far behind.

1. I'd like to know more about that story

Limbaugh and Randi are running on different stations and probably different networks in the same ADI (cities).

I'm in the business and I never heard of one station taking programming direction from a competitor in over 30 years. A station may decide not to "counterprogram" to assure a better lead in for a show and not face a head to head competition with a more established program, but having another station tell you to change your programming? I kind of doubt it.
