You know, libraries often have old phone books. Maybe that would be helpful for the DC Madam's list?

4. And many libraries have those old phone books for all across the country.
I think we're going to end up using those by the time this is all said and done.

5. OH! I just thought: some telephone companies put out CD-Rom phone books!
It might be possible to get those on eBay for the years and locations we need to find numbers for.

9. ever used one of those cd's ?
Bellsouth supplied one with a new phone book years ago. Inserting it in my computer locked it up, and all it was were pdf files of every page of the phone book. Good luck flipping through them...

they might have updated the way they opererated since then, but i've just tossed them ever since.

10. I'm using a service affiliated with that one. It's been rather unsatifactory...
plus it's current, and that means I can't be certain the numbers I find are for people who currently have the phone number.

8. Wouldn't it have to be a reverse listing book?
When I worked doing labor market research long ago, we had a special book, I think through the city or something, where you could look up the number to get the physical address. Otherwise, you have to know who to look up first in a traditional phone book.

11. Indeed, that would be absolutely necessary.
That's probably why someone who lives in the places these numbers are from must go to their library and look this up.

13. Of course you can't walk into a realtor's office for free. If someone on DU is from DC...
and is a realtor that would help!

16. I'm guessing real estate offices all over D.C. have been having a ball ...
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 05:12 PM by TahitiNut
... with the agents looking up the numbers. In the pre-PC days, it was a paper reverse directory. I'm guessing it's now on their MLS service-provider's site.

My uncle was an agent and then a broker here in the Northwest Detroit suburbs about 30 years ago and I'd brwose it every once in a while. He'd use it for FSBO's and other things.
