It takes the same amount of votes to overturn a Bush* veto as it does to Impeach
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 06:06 PM by Toots
How can Democrats do anything? The only thing they can realistically accomplish is Impeachment. Bush* can stop every single bill sent his way unless he is removed. If the votes aren't there for Impeachment then they aren't there for anything at all. On edit I mean for removal, it only takes a simple majority to Impeach..

1. Told Pelosi's office to say, "Impeachment is off the table until we get more names from Larry Flynt"

2. didn't stop the Clinton impeachment - did it?
i don't care if he's convicted in the Senate. i want that blot on his presidency. besides signalling to the rest of the planet that we're not sheep, its a bit of justice for the big dog, if nothing else.

4. Yep, messin' up his legacy.
He's the worst President in the history of the United States of America, bar none. We need to make sure that "Bush was impeached for lying, cheating, stealing, etc.," is part of his legacy for all of history to see.

We can't allow anyone to think for a second that the man was even a halfway decent President.

Personally, I think the votes will be there when needed. It will be too close to election time, and the Republicans are going to do anything and everything to distance themselves from Bush/Cheney.

6. Are you saying we shouldn't impeach because we haven't the votes?
I hope not. That would be rather spineless, IMO.

8. That's a very good reason not to impeach
if it's bound to fail in the senate, it won't do any good. It might make YOU feel better, but it would acquit Bush and make him look innocent, make Democrats look bad for wasting their time, and not accomplish a damned thing.

9. You think that makes dems look bad?
I think being spineless cowards makes dems look bad. Looking the other way at felonies makes dems look bad. Ignoring your oath of office makes dems look bad.

11. I guess I've a higher opinion of most Americans than you do.
Because don't think most Americans are spineless cowards.

14. Can you show me somebody who doesn't support impeachment...
That isn't either a crook, or a spineless coward?

7. yes
it takes a majority of the House to impeach, but it takes 2/3rds of the Senate to convict - the same to override a veto.

And if we have no hope of overriding even his most egregious vetoes, why would anyone think that number would vote to remove him from office?

13. There is a notion that facts brought to light during the impeachment trial would not matter
I think that when the truth was exposed to the American public that many a Republican member of Congress will have to go along and vote for impeachment - both in the House to get the ball rolling and even more so in the Senate.

17. Then investigate first
and establish the facts - then impeach. That's the proper order.

And if you think 17 Republicans in the senate would be swayed, you've been watching a very different Republican party than I've been watching these last 15 years.
