Bush described as articulate and able to handle the press corp by a reporter
interviewed by Thom Hartmann this morning. He is also said to be very charming. Did they sober him up? I have noticed that Bush can speak in complete sentences sometimes and even make sense particularly when he has been forced to be on AF1 with Laura for a long trip. After that his condition and speech seem to deteriorate in ratio with the dining and public events he is expected to show up for.

However, since the Fourth of July break, he seems to be almost presidential. Was rehab part of this vacation?

8. It is easy to appear 'together'...
when it is all scripted. I watched chimpy give his speech today, he had
his list of reporters and questions right on the podium. I noticed this
because the order got mixed up and chimpy referred to the list before
answering both questions that were asked out of order.

Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 10:30 PM by Rob H.
She said Bush was charming (this about a man who famously asked, "Who cares what you think?" when someone told him what a terrible job he thought Bush was doing) and articulate ("subliminable"? "misunderestimated"? "put food on your family"?), and according to her, "a lot like President Clinton." I turned it off shortly after she said that--one huge difference she didn't mention is that Clinton actually knew what he was talking about. Personally, I'm calling bullshit on what she said.

One thing I noticed a couple of days ago, when someone posted a link to video of him mocking reporters at the opening of the newly-remodeled White House press room, is that his "shucks, I'm just a good ol' boy" accent magically disappeared for at least those couple of minutes.

Bush, from the video: "Let's do this. Let me cut the ribbon ... and then why don't you all yell simultaneously. Like, really loudly. And that way, you might get noticed. I'll, like, listen, internalize, play like I'm gonna answer the question, and then smile at you and just say 'got it. Thanks. Thanks for such a solid, sound question.'"

Edit: clarity.

24. Thanks for a better playback than my memory was able to
dredge up. I was hoping someone would post this as I thought it was a rather stunning statement, however, no one did, so I did the gist of it anyway if not the details. However, my first reaction to her statements was, "Did they sober him up?" I so hoped Thom would say something like this but he didn't.

30. That was Victoria Jones from Talk Radio News
Her comments about Bush's charisma being the equal of Clinton's stopped me in my tracks.

She appears daily on Thom's program and always seemed to be something of a progressive ... until today.

All I can say is that magnetism sure doesn't come across on a standard definition TV.

You think I'm kidding? I'm reminded of a cleaning lady who was a friend of mine who once remarked on how clean one of her client's bathtub and shower always was thinking he cleaned up after himself. One day she noticed cobwebs. She ran a towel over the fixtures and realized they were powdered with dust. I won't tell you how long it was that they weren't used.

41. But that particular word and the "charming" word comparing him
to Clinton were used. That's what got my attention. So I listened to the sound bytes and by articulate it did seem that he was talking in complete sentences, which is unusual for him in the past, so maybe this is what the reporter meant.

43. Ya know, I REEEALLY detest this weird low-expectation thing the media has with him...
Like in the 2000 and 2004 debates when "they" said that nobody expected him to do well. He didn't, and "they" declared him triumphant. "They" think "we" are complete fucking puddles-of-drool-around-our-shoes stupid. They must be right.

46. This is why I posted this thread but I wasn't sure why I was annoyed.
Okay, now that I was reminded that it was Victoria Jones and she has an English accent and no doubt ties to all things British, it reminds me of my dealings with the colonial Brits I met when I was a young thing. They were so very polite and tea solved all problems. It's a very nice custom, don't get me wrong. I liked it, but sometimes you can't be nicey about poo. That's the only way I can put it politely. The President of the United States should not be apologized about because for once he decided not to do it in his pants.
