I was thinking
(rarely a good thing, I know).

I've been wondering lately if "liberal" translates to "the natural prey of bullies."

Oh, don't be shocked. Bullying is the modus operandi of the Republicans and it seems damn effective. They bullied (and lied) their way into the IWR, the giveaway to the credit cards companies that was the so-called "Bankruptcy Bill," a war we most definitely didn't need, and now into unprecedented executive power that's precipitating a showdown with congress.

We're the peacemakers, which, on one hand, isn't a bad thing. But there comes a time when you CAN'T make peace with your enemies, and every attempt to do so simply feeds them ammunition to use against you in the future.

I'd say we've reached that point. There should be, there CAN be, no more capitulation. No more compromise with tyranny. Maybe it's not just a talking point that the Democrats are "appeasers," willing to negotiate away our strength and prestige to anyone who pushes too hard.

Oh, that's not all of us. I realize that. But far too many seem to bend when the time for bending has passed. Sometimes it's good to be a willow, but sometimes one must allow oneself to become an oak. There are lines that should not be crossed and anyone who crosses them should become a target for every weapon you have.

It's time to stop playing nice and use the sharp words. "Lies" would be a good place to start. Not "mistakes" or "misinformed" but "lie, liar, lied, lying." And FUCK the RW pundits. They're scum and we KNOW it. It's past time to stop worrying about what they'll say. It's not as though THEY'RE squeaky clean.

"Mr. O'Reilly? Don't you have an intern to sexually harass or something?"

"Mr. Limbaugh? Don't you have some illegal oxycontin or viagra to obtain?"

It's past time to start taking the fight to THEM. Hit them where they're weak AND KEEP HITTING THEM. It's really the only way to deal with bullies. You can't ignore them, no matter what your mom said. Turning your back and walking away usually only results in a kidney punch or a rabbit punch to the back of the head.

So you hit them where they live. "You, sir, are a LIAR. You lied about the need for war, you lied about WMDs, you lied about how easy it would be, and, what's more, you lied about listening to those who actually know the business of war. The only people you listened to are the people you PAID to tell you what you wanted to hear.

"There is nothing more destructive to a leader than the practice of surrounding himself with yes-men. And that's precisely what you did."

And, as the Congressional Republicans try to scurry away from the mess they made, it's past time to confront them with their mistakes. The people have to know that they supported this "great leader" all the way, until it dawned on them that they could be painted with the same brush he's painted himself with... A bully, a failure, and a fool.

We can no longer afford to "be nice." And anyone who thinks that we have anything to gain by being nice is either to naive to lead us, or is too afraid of the bullies to fight the way we have to fight.

This ain't no dance club. This ain't no foolin' around.

This is a war of a different kind, but it's a war nonethless. And those who refuse to use the weapons they've been given are doomed to lose.

1. Absolutely RIGHT ON!
Thanks for this post, Mythsaje. I get so tired of our so-called leaders dancing around the words "lie, liar, lied and lying" when talking about Bush and his minions. Every time I hear one of them say "mistake" or "mislead", I want to fucking scream. I want them to tell the raw and unvarnished truth about the vermin who have stolen our country. If they don't, how are we ever going to get it back?

3. I think that must be the translation. Interesting since liberal people
and liberal principles started this country. Think about the documents that the founding fathers wrote ...these people were not conservative.

Aside from that, I am not sure when liberal got to be such a dirty word and liberals became prey to bullies but I remember in the 1990's, when Clinton was President it was very vogue to trash the "liberals" with no factual basis or specific reasoning behind doing so.

I love that statement you made, "You sir are a liar."

And, BTW, I am not ready to make nice.

4. Bullies can only fight dirty
They only time I remember dealing with a bully was in grade school. After that people begin to mature and find out that people just don't like bullies.

They are not confident in themselves to be able to handle other people's ideas and to talk intelligently.
