The Democrats' performance thus far has been disappointing
That's really all there is to it. When they "won" in November, everybody thought things would be different. Everybody expected things to be different. Did they expect things to happen overnight? Perhaps some did, but I think it's safe to say that the majority knew it would take much time and effort to change things.

While the time is surely passing, what we are all observing is the lack of effort on the part of the Democrats. It started almost immediately, when Ms. Pelosi said impeachment was "off the table". To completely remove that option was disheartening at best. A very small minority of die hard liberals were furious over that.

Then came the spectacular capitulation that was the Iraq war spending bill. Again, more liberals, progressives, even Democrats who consider themselves "conservative" were pushed away. Where was the fight? Where was the effort? Remember when Republicans threatened to use the "nuclear option"? Why can't Democrats play the same type of political game?

And now, with yet another cave in regarding the FISA issue, it seems like the Democrats have had their third strike and are out. "Give them time", the hard core loyalists say, "They don't have the votes", "You don't understand how politics works", and on and on with excuse after excuse after excuse. Is there any wonder that so many here are sick and tired of this? Who really won in November, because it doesn't feel like the Democratic base did. It doesn't even feel like the so called "Blue dog" Democrats won. Since when is complete capitulation to the Republicans a Democratic value?

So what if Bush threatens to veto a bill? LET HIM VETO THE BILL. He is a lame duck, unpopular fraud that over 70% of the American people have had enough of already. So what if the corporate media spins every single thing the Democrats do? The American people are on to it. For God's sake, almost half of the population supports impeachment, and it's off the table! How many people supported the impeachment of Bill Clinton? Did the Republicans take it off the table?

If any lurkers or new posters are wondering why things seem so contentious around here lately, the answer is pretty simple. The Democrats continue to shoot themselves in the foot, taking few (if any) risks, and alienating their base one cave in at a time. People are getting really tired of it. What a sad, pathetic, and embarrassing performance.

2. Disappointing? Isn't that a bit like saying
"The I-35W bridge's structural integrity is a bit below-par"?

3. A spectacular disappointment.
I can't say that it was a big surprise for me considering the way they acted before November. I did kind of hope a majority would give them a little spine but it seems they don't know what to do with a majority or with a lame duck maladministration with a very low approval rating. Stunning isn't it?

4. Love the broad brush
What is the color of disdain?

You do realize that between the houses more than 200 Democrats voted against the FISA bill, right?

5. "Disappointing" seems generous. Weak, Ineffective, Cowardly, Embarrassing.
And oh yes, as you mentioned....PATHETIC. All of that pretty much sums it up for me.

Is there any saving them from themselves?
