Sana'a - Yemen's electricity and energy minister said on Sunday that international firms would build a nuclear reactor in the country to help it make up for the shortfall in electricity supplies.
'Specialized international firms will build the strategic nuclear reactor that Yemen seeks to own for producing electricity,' the official Saba news agency quoted the minister Mustafa Bahran as saying.
Bahran, who made the remarks in a lecture he delivered in the south-eastern city of Mukalla, said his government's drive towards nuclear power generation was based on the economic feasibility of this technology.

Libya and France sign nuclear desalination agreement
26 July 2007
France and Libya have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on a project to build a nuclear-powered desalination plant in Libya. The accord was signed during a visit by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to Libya.
"The objective is to cooperate so as to work on the installation in Libya of a nuclear reactor to supply drinking water from desalinated sea water," according to French presidential aide Claude Gueant. According to press reports, Gueant suggested French nuclear company Areva as the reactor supplier: "There's only one
, that's Areva," he said.
