Tata Consultancy bags deal with Hawaiian Airlines
Source: Reuters/India

Mon Aug 27, 2007 5:36PM IST

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Tata Consultancy Services said on Monday it had signed a multi-year contract with Hawaiian Airlines to provide IT, business process outsourcing and infrastructure services.

The company did not put a value on the deal, but a source close to the development said the total contract was worth about $40 million.

TCS, India's top software exporter, said in a statement it would provide maintenance and support services to the airline's revenue accounting application.

Ahead of the announcement, shares in the Indian company closed 0.9 percent higher at 1,025.65 rupees in a Mumbai market that rose 2.89 percent.

1. And in our local news? Bupkis.
Then again, it may be that Hawaiian had already "outsourced" its IT to the mainland, rendering this less of a breaking news story hereabouts. For years, one of our large hotel chains had its reservation center in -- Denver??

True, we've got the lowest unemployment in the land, at 2.8 percent, but most of the jobs are crappy low-wage ones, many in the hospitality industry. Many people must work two such jobs to make ends meet in our off-the-charts housing market (my 350-sq.-ft. studio just went up to $850), and if they can't find a second one, they don't show up as unemployed, 'cause they've still got the first one, see? Thus, the potential loss of actual career-type jobs at Hawaiian would suck majorly. Aloha and welcome to paradise! :-)

2. Wave bye-bye to Hawaiian Air.
TCS is the kiss of death. Everything they touch turns to s--t.
