Poll question: Would you join a general strike on 9/11 and stay out of work or school and/or fill the streets?
The Bush administration has committed war crimes and committed a sustained attack on our constitution, civil rights and reputation in the world, yet despite the deaths of hundreds of thousands, the breaking of our military, creating massive deficits to benefit a few, Congress has failed to act to stop Bush & Cheney either by impeaching them or ending the war by cutting off funding or revoking the war resolutions.

It is time for Americans to do what has been so effective in other parts of the world: drop everything and fill the streets.

9/11 is the perfect day to do this since it will show Congress we do not buy exploiting that tragedy as the excuse to commit crimes against humanity and destroy our democratic system. It will show them that we are not the idiots and cowards they take us for.

If we don't do it now, when? After Bush attacks Iran and ignites a world war? After he declares martial law? People will undoubtedly react when those things happen, but if we wait until then, Bush will treat the protesters exactly the way the Chinese did those in Tianamen Square: with tanks, bullets, and bayonets.

1. Maybe if it started on 9/11 and continued until change occurred..
One day of calling in sick and holding a sign is a complete waste of time. It is the protest equivalent of a sitcom.

9/11 is the night they do the Veto Competition on Big Brother.. Gotta head home before rush hour so we don't miss it.

2. At least half the stores in Tiburon will be closed on 9/11
Our gallery is closing.

We are in it with both feet.

MoveOn is on this, too.

Or, at least that's where I think it came from.

15. Fornicalia
North across the Bay from SF.

One of the coolest places to live on the planet.

If you have a Windows-based PC, click on the different webcams. Don't let the Active-X thing on the fountain cam worry you, it is perfectly safe. Watch the fountain for a while, it is really unique.

This is a shot from Sausalito across to Tiburon. If you were looking thru the camera, my house in in the group of houses directly across the Bay, on the hill. San Francisco would be over your right shoulder and the 'Gate over your left.

I look straight across the Bay to SF. Angel Island is on my left and the 'Gate is to my right.

3. So many of those that might protest are so financially strained that they
couldn't afford to lose a days wages or risk being fired for taking a 'day off'...

4. I'm there. I just wish I could get some kind of idea
about any kind of organization at all going on anywhere in my state. Like, are we supposed to gather anyplace in particular? So far, all my calls and e-mails to local orgs. have gone unanswered.

5. I often work from home
I'm not sure anyone would notice if I didn't show up. I suppose it would help to add another body to a protest, though.

There are actually some (working poor) people who have crappy jobs that they could actually lose for doing this.

I didn't note that sort of option in your "when did you quit beating your wife" poll.

Sometimes I have to double check it's DemocraticUnderground I'm reading.

14. think of what will be going on that day if we don't: Bush using 9/11 to sell next war
we have to offer counter-programming.

18. I'll be there...

I went to the Jan Protest at Lafayette Park, march to Capitol Hill demanding a challenge to
the Ohio electors. Got there an hour early and there were six people, including me and I knew no
one. That ended up being a strong crowd, small but committed. I think that 911 will be bigger by
a great deal and that we'll make one of many statements this month, a continuum of defiance and
protest against * and his madness.
