Pastor charged with several sex assaults

The pastor of an eastern Kanawha County church was arrested Monday morning on charges of sexually assaulting at least three boys more than a decade ago.

Shrewsbury Church of God senior pastor Sandy Martin Cook, 48, of Belle, faces three counts of sexual assault by a person of trust, said Trooper E.B. McClung of the State Police's South Charleston detachment.

At least one of the alleged victims was assaulted on several occasions in 1994 when he was a member of the church, which is located on U.S. 60 east of Charleston, McClung said.

Police believe Cook was involved in acts of masturbation, as well as oral and anal sex with the boys, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
