Poll question: Unofficial DU Straw Poll--Who Do You Love?
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 04:46 PM by smoogatz
Just a quick snapshot, entirely unscientific, etc., but these polls do help us keep things in perspective, I think. The likely top nine prospective candidates are listed alphabetically, without comment. Don't worry--I won't argue with your choices or dispute your rationales--this isn't one of THOSE polls. If you choose "other," please specify in your reply. Also, if you vote please consider giving the poll a kick. Also, if you think these polls are a total waste of time, why the hell did you click on it? Also, yes, I've included a couple of potential candidates that haven't declared yet. If you've got a problem with that, post your own poll.

2. Gore is imperfect -- as are all the choices . . .
But his time outside the Beltway (even the part spent shmoozing in Hollywood) has given him a perspective on reality that the others (politicians all -- even Kucinich) can't touch. Not to mention *his* issue (survival of life on the planet) is *the* issue facing human beings everywhere.

5. I can't vote Gore or Clark here; I don't think either is running. Reluctantly, Biden
I support him not because he's the best, but because he needs to be heard a lot more before losing.

6. You know, I find it interesting all the love being poured on Al Gore
After all, he was Clinton's running mate, a "product" of the DLC.

He supported NAFTA - remember his debate with Perot's running mate?

He was as centrist as they come - starting with his first ran in 1988.

Don't get me wrong. I admire Gore and will vote for him if he is our candidate - as I voted for him in 2000 - but I sometimes wonder about DU..

34. Its good to question everything, question everything... :)
Have you read his Assault on Reason or seen Inconvenient Truth? I think those two works of his explain a lot of the admiration and respect you see here for him.

42. Have you paid attention since 2000?
Did you heard Al Gore speak at Constitution Hall? Did you read "The Assault On Reason"? I actually didn't vote for Gore in 2000, for many of the reasons you list here (and I live in Indiana, so my protest vote wasn't going to matter). Now I may be wrong, but the man I heard speak out against the war and the excesses of the Bush Administration at a time when nearly everyone else was trying to get in the group photo on the aircraft carrier, has a different perspective than the candidate of 2000. I just see a man molded by his experiences since that time. Not a perfect candidate, certainly, and still perhaps too centrist on some issues, but no longer the cautious, calculating politician of previous times.

11. Couldn't you include "None of the above?"
Message to you people: Gore is NOT running. The rumors of him "planning to announce" is a hallucination brought on by reading too many Harlequin romances.

And what is the point of "loving" a candidate? That sounds like the primary is a beauty contest, or the election of a high school Student Government President. Something where personality counts much more than what the person will actually do.

Now me, I would take a candidate who picks his nose on camera, scratches his ass with his hands down his pants, and refers to all women as "bitches and ho's" - as long as he ends the war, helps the poor, brings us universal health care and brings back the real U.S. economy. Love him? Naah. NEED him, yes.

20. won't vote 'cause I can't vote
-- so I don't want to influence even a straw poll -- and I probably wouldn't vote for Joe Biden if I had a real vote in the Democratic primaries, and I wouldn't want him to be the leader of my own party (here in Canada) or, probably, the nominee for my party (if I were in the US) ... but I love him nonetheless!

I fell in love when I watched the Clarence Thomas hearings, and it stuck.

He's smart, he's cute, he's smart, he's ethical, he's smart, and he's cute. And he's ethical. And smart.

Kinda like Pierre Trudeau. I didn't vote for him, either. Can't say the world would have been better off without either one of them either, though.

46. oh, I know ;)

And I don't mind at all trying to influence what people in the US do -- I just don't want to influence what people in the US think other people in the US think! Uh, if you see what I mean. ;)

I thought maybe I was alone around here in my closet Joe Biden-loving, so it was a relief to see the outpouring of affection in the thread for people to explain their support for him!
