Poll question: Would you describe yourself as a "moveon" democrat?
Hey All.
Last year I asked DU'ers "Where ya at?" in a GD poll. The choices were DLC / DNC / Black Caucus / Independent / Progressive Caucus / Labor - Working Family / Green ...

I have really been impressed with pretty much everything that moveon.org has done. I really like their work. I feel like moveon pretty much represents my opinions and views much better then the DLC or the DNC.

So do you think of yourself as a moveon dem? If not, please post your dem affiliation in the subject line of your reply.

Thanks. Peace and low stress. Peace in the middle east.

53. the state party is middle to right wing pro corporationist
the national party is totally owned by corporate interests.

At least in NYS we have the Working Family Party. As long as a Democrat is not anti-union (how can a DEM ever be anti-union  ), the WFP will cross endorse them.

However, if the Dems nominate a conservative, anti-union candidate, the WFP will either endorse the GOP or run a third candidate.

There is still some democracy in them there hills.:kick:

The local dem party won't go to the left. If I want the left, I can join the independent party (reform party) or the working family party.

Because they are an organization that has done things I didn't agree with - on both sides of the spectrum - but in general I think they are on the right side. And given all the shit they get from the Conservative Media, I'm proud to describe myself as a MoveOn Dem.

There are better ways of standing up against the other side than to result to juvenile name calling. Present facts in an adult manner to get the response you want. Behaving childishly detracts from the message.

30. MoveOn is a horrible title for an organization based on politics.
You must remember the past and present to build a better future. MoveOn by the name alone just says..."Let's move on...it wasn't a big deal." With that attitude you are bound to be taken advantage of again and nothing will change for the world. Hence, a second stolen Presidential election.

You must move backwards and forwards to create the here and now.

On the Spot: Moving On with MoveOn

By Rachel Neumann, AlterNet. Posted November 23, 2004.

http://www.alternet.org/election04/20575/

MoveOn mobilized hundreds of thousands before the election.
This weekend, almost 20,000 people met to tell them what they
should be doing next. But can they turn all that energy into
a unified progressive vision?

The waiting list was long; only a lucky 60 people found their way to this San Francisco location on Sunday, Nov. 21. With a friend in common – the progressive online organization MoveOn.org – conversation came easily; they converged on the San Francisco loft, trading names and stories on their way up the stairs. While some had brought their own chairs or stood by the food, most people sat on the floor. Around the country, over 18,000 people were meeting at 1,500 parties like this one, designed to help MoveOn.org decide on its next priorities and strategies.

MoveOn mobilized hundreds of thousands of frustrated people before the Nov. 2 election. They made phone calls to swing states, educated themselves with progressive media, raised over $50 million for John Kerry and local candidates, and sent over 70,000 volunteers into the swing states. Because the organization was particularly vocal in the last month leading up the election, their silence in the days that followed after election day left some of their members feeling lost. Where was the group that had helped them turn outrage into action? In an interview with KGO radio, Joan Blades, MoveOn's co-founder, said "The day after the election we were deluged with emails from members saying 'Thank you, this was wonderful, what next?'"

After dealing with their own sense of electoral loss and recognizing some of the smaller victories from election day, the staff at MoveOn realized that they didn't know what was next. They had some ideas, but, as the staff wrote in a collective email to supporters, "we agreed that we couldn't move forward with anything until we heard from you."

Investigate the Vote

Questions are swirling around whether the election was conducted honestly or not.

We need to know -- was it or wasn't it?

If people were wrongly prevented from voting, or if legitimate votes were mis-counted
or not counted at all, we need to know so the wrongdoers can be held accountable, and
to help prevent this from happening again.

That's why we believe that:

"Congress must investigate the integrity of the voting process in the 2004 election."
