Our battle with CBS continues
Now we have an anonymous CBS employee emailing us and defending CBS's lies. Here is background for those of you not familiar with this story: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/proud2Blib/46

My response to this anonymous employee:

We have pictures of Corva in handcufs. And we have a CBS spokewoman ON TAPE denying anyone was handcuffed or told to leave the event because of their signs. So we have proven CBS is lying. How can anyone defend that???

Ira Harritt and Mary Vincent are above reproach. Those of us who know them know they would NEVER lie and those of us who were there know they are telling the truth. As Tom Klammer pointed out, we have witnesses, CBS has a spokesperson with an agenda who is lying.

We also have pictures of signs promoting the war that CBS DID allow on the air. We have pictures of a sexually suggestive sign CBS allowed on the air. And I have a tape of the Early Show that proves these signs WERE allowed on the air. As I said in my letter to the newspaper that was not published, CBS allowed these signs but censored 'OUT OF IRAQ NOW'. They claim they didn't want controversy, yet they allowed signs that promoted a war that is opposed by the majority of Americans! The media is not supposed to control the message!!! Hello!!?? How much is the Bush administration paying CBS to promote its illegal war? What other explanation is there?

We also have a history with a local media that ignores us and promotes war mongers. And a national media that cheerleads for the worst president ever and his war, while ignoring the growing anti-war movement. I am asking every 'journalist' I correspond with to tell me if they know what the Downing Street Minutes are. If they say no, my point is proven. If our media had ignored the Pentagon Papers as they have ignored the Downing Street Minutes, we would still be in Vietnam. If Woodward and Bernstein had not bravely exposed the deceptions of the Nixon administration as today's 'reporters' have ignored Bush's lies, Nixon would never have resigned.

The thing that saddens me the most about this encounter with CBS is that we are reduced to email exchanges with anonymous employees instead of stories in newspapers and on television exposing what CBS did to us. We were censored, Corva was handcuffed and intimidated by cops, a CBS production assistant told us if our signs appeared on camera she "would lose her job" and no one other than one local reporter and the Progressive Magazine will tell the story.

You 'journalists' make me sick. You are complicit in this war and the resulting deaths of nearly a million people. You are complicit in the refusal to hold George Bush accountable. Do your fucking job!! Quit controlling the message and report the news, ALL of the news. How many viewers do you need to lose before you understand that you need to REPORT THE NEWS and stop controlling the message!!

2. Great point about the Pentagon Papers.
That whole episode is just surreal. And now some anonymous CBS employee is trying to argue with you? :wtf:

3. One of our activists is an amateur media person with a show on community radio
Somehow she hooked up with this CBS employee who emailed her to defend CBS and basically called us liars. This employee claims he was there the day CBS was here, watched the taping and no one was detained or asked to leave. And of course, the handcuffing was NOT ON CAMERA. Sheesh. Makes me wonder how stupid this employee thinks we are.

Also, the damn war mongers from Moving America Backwards came through on their bus tour on Monday and most of the local TV stations were there covering them. We had a record number at a protest 2 weeks ago and another large crowd last night at our 9/11 vigil, and NO MEDIA!! We send out press releases and call our local media and they ignore us and our events but cover a group from out of town going across country holding press conferences where they blame Saddam for 9/11.

I am just beyond angry here.

4. The propaganda is horrendous this week. I don't even recognize
this country. Even in this so called "liberal" city, the papers are shilling for the war mongers.

I'll be surprised if any of my efforts to get press for 9/15 get results.
