Why The Anti-War Dems Will Retreat
Edited on Wed Sep-12-07 10:11 AM by OldTymeDem
From Patrick Buchanan(anti-Iraq War himself), source: RealClear Politics

The Nitty Gritty:

"What happened to the party of Speaker Pelosi and Reid, which was going to end U.S. involvement in the war and not permit Bush to pursue victory the way Richard Nixon pursued it in Vietnam for four years?

Answer: Terrified of the possible consequences of the policies they recommend,
Democrats lack the courage to impose those policies.

Bush is winning today because he has jettisoned the jabber about global democracy and argues that a U.S. withdrawal risks a strategic disaster, national humiliation, massacre of our friends and triumph for al-Qaida. Democrats, fearing he may be right, are in paralysis."

What do you think?

1. Unfortunately, there are no LEADERS out there now, only politicians.
We got what the founding fathers envisioned in the House, with citizen lawmakers. Doctors (like Bill Frist!) and lots and lots of lawyers. We have that lovely Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. Up until a few years ago, she was diggin' the DC cocktail party circuit, and make some good bucks on a few side ventures. Politics as just another job, and Nancy's just another corporate executive. And she and Harry, another perfectly nice old gentleman, are saying "Wait just a bleeping minute, I didn't sign up for this! I just wanted a few junkets to exotic lands, maybe a revolving door job at some big donor's when I'm gone...none of this epic battle for supremacy and world domination shit for me! No way!"

A strong leader, a man or woman of conviction, would be able to stand toe to toe with George Bush and call him on his bluffing, bullshitting and lying, and muster the citizen legislators in Congress to accept their role in upholding the Constitution, too.

But instead we have just another bunch of pre-packaged corporate-beholden rich boys (and girl) pandering to the lowest common denominator with the highest likelihood to vote. Everything else is just tap-dancing, a big dance. Baffle 'em with bullshit until you get in office, then start working down your list of donors whose favors you've got to return.

Of course, then there's Dennis Kucinich.

3. What a shock, no courage, no convictions.
So of course our fabulous leadership will eagerly trade Iraqi lives and the lives of our soldiers for a safe haven from the difficult choice to do the right thing and end our illegal and immoral occupation of Iraq. And why not? Sure the base is pissed, but their choices are stay home or vote Democratic. If in fact our leaders manage to lose in 2008, they will return to the more comfortable role of spineless opposition, oh well...

4. Have you noticed that even republicans are trying to tell
our Dems what to do?

Jeez, this is getting really ridiculous.

Dems need to grow a pair and stand up to bush!!!!
