Ike Skelton needs to GO
This from OpEdNews today:

"Democratic Representative Ike Skelton from Missouri was overheard by a Wall Street Journal reporter at a hearing for Army Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker, who were about to testify about current conditions in Iraq. He leaned over to say this to Republican Representative Duncan Hunter, “That really pisses me off down there, those assholes.”

Dem. Rep. Ike Skelton again was overheard saying, “Out they go,” as at least a half-dozen protesters were arrested and escorted out of the hearing. Skelton was visibly irritated. He said “Are they gone?” to nobody specific after all the “assholes” had been removed.
Forget that these may be your constituents, Mr. Skelton. Forget that these protesters voted for your party to come in and take control of Iraq and bring the troops home in November last year. Forget that your party has failed. Let’s examine the hard fact that you have ignored one congressman’s plan for no apparent or logical reason....."

I sent the entire thing to Pelosi AND to Skelton. These are exactly the type of Bush Dogs we need to replace in 2008, if not sooner.

I urge everyone to write or call your critters. This guy is the asshole, not the protestors. Ferrchrissake. People wonder where all the protestors are?? We need more people like Code Pink, MoveOn.org, and anyone who is standing up and demanding their right to freedom of speech and assembly.

2. He also shouldn't forget that liberals like those protesters were the
engine behind the Dem win last year that allowed him to be the chairman of the committee, too.

16. No, it was the voters in the middle of the political spectrum which swung the election
Those Code Pinkos aren't going to vote Republican no matter what. It was the swing voters who had voted GOP in the past and pulled the Democratic lever this time that won it.

30. As I said, I believe the left was the engine behind the win.
Perhaps I should have said <i>energy</i>

3. I have already called and asked for an apology to the Peace Community

Call Ike Skelton and ask him to apologize to both his AMerican citizen constituents that pay his paycheck and to apologize to the peace community, Code Pink, Democrats.com and Rev. Yearwood that risked arrest to protest an unwinnable war. Their right to free speech allows them to scream and yell if they are not happy with the US government. it's called democracy and dissidents are not assholes, they are heroes!!!

*** Please call Skelton's office now to protest his bad manners

5. Protesters
As I agree with protests, during hearings it is NOT allowed, they are in session and
need to conduct business without any interuptions. :hi:

7. k&r. Skelton could have dealt with this better.
He could have told them to sit down and limit themselves to " silent protest" as has been allowed in other hearings, showing their signs etc. But he chose to bring out the sledgehammer right away. I agree he needs to be called on this.

9. And you think they would've cooperated with that?
I don't.

And usually, ANY sort of demonstration, silent or otherwise, is prohibited in the galleries of the House and Senate.

Sorry, but I don't think Skelton did or said anything wrong. Calling people who act like assholes "assholes" is appropriate.

12. There are myriad ways
to communicate with the government short of disrupting hearings.

I have a natural aversion to people who think the rightness of their cause gives the carte blanche to do whatever they want. Whether it's Code Pink or pro-life fanatics or PETA.

13. We haven't been able to "communicate" with our government.

If we don't disrupt and make noise, as distasteful as it is to some, no changes will ever be made. But to protest means to disrupt. And if any "government" needs disrupted it is THIS ONE.

17. So what changes were made as a result of the shrieking?
The only thing I see is that before hand, Rep. Skelton didn't know those folks existed. Now he thinks they're assholes.

I kind of doubt it made any difference in public opinion of the few dozen people watching CSPAN, much less the American public at large.

that Code Pink has accomplished anything, and in my opinion, they turn more people AWAY from their cause than they gain.

His district is more west central mo, and he usually gets about 80% of the vote.

And then he has to give up some more.

26. Ike Skelton is my congressman...
and people in my area love him. They love him because he is an excellent congressman who genuinely cares about his constituents. Yesterday I read a thread similiar to this one, and the later posts mentioned that it wasn't Ike who called the protestors assholes, it was one of the people sitting near him. I suspect that is true, because it is difficult for me to believe that Ike would ever call anyone an asshole.

I will say this though-if Ike DID call the protestors assholes-they deserved it.

It would appear that the posters at DU are ready to toss out one of our best people, based on information that isn't even true.

Careful guys.........
