Kristol: Obama would have suppirted slavery
Kristol: Obama Is ‘The Opposite Of Lincoln,’ Would Have Been Pro-Slavery

Yesterday, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) announced his candidacy for president in Springfield, IL, where Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous “House Divided” address. In his speech, Obama reiterated his call to redeploy U.S. forces out of Iraq by March 2008.

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Weekly Standard editor William Kristol attacked Obama’s Iraq policy, saying he wants to appease terrorists like pro-slavery politician Stephen Douglas tried to appease slave-owners. Kristol said, “Obama’s speech is a ‘can’t we get along’ speech — sort of the opposite of Lincoln. He would have been with Stephen Douglas in 1858.”

1. A black man who would've appeased slave-owners?
Yeah, okay. :eyes:

The huge difference is that we're not fighting an AMERICAN civil war. We're fighting SOMEONE ELSE'S civil war.

3. Kristol is a card-carrying neocon zombie
I despise him. He's got that Kool-Aid gleam in his eye.

This is their new talking point about Obama. They sink lower and lower by the second.

22. Of course, he inherited his NeoCon lunacy from his father.
Being a raving NeoCon is in his jeans and in his genes.

23. It's really the only way they can perpetuate themselves
Since their ideas are intellectually and morally bankrupt. They have to breed them . . .

8. Kristol is losing it
Edited on Sun Feb-11-07 10:57 AM by Mz Pip
He can't make his point or defend his position by being rational so he just makes up outlandish allegations that have zero basis in reality.

I can see him saying this thinking, "What's the most outrageous thing I can say about Obama? Ah, he would have been pro-slavery. Okay, now let me find a way to tie that into his opposition to the war." Nevermind if it doesn't make any sense.

11. Itsmesgd: Kristol is an evil ass
I love how the different "news" shows will use the guest's "show title du jour" instead of what they really are. Kristol's title should read "rabid uber neo-con apologist".

There were no terrorists in Iraq until after we invaded. They took it as a place of opportunity to train and recruit--war theaters tend to do that, you know. Obama wisely wishes to leave Iraq before more terrorists can be created from there.

Kristol doesn't go into how Douglas "appeased slave owners", I notice. Douglas was not for the manditory reintroduction of slaves into free states. When the Compromise of 1850 broke down, he suggested that each territory vote on whether or not it wanted slavery. Did this really appease slave owners? Only to the extent that it opened all territory to the possibility of becoming slave states. HOWEVER, slave owners knew that the climate in northern states was not conducive to planting crops requiring massive amounts of labor, and Douglas, in his plan, was counting on this fact to keep most slaveholders out of northern territories so that they "naturally" became free. The fact that abolitionists and slave holders flocked to Kansas to rig the vote was not in Douglas's calculations. The Kansas War that followed appeased no one; it simply heightened tensions, giving rise to extremists like John Brown, and creating misery and disaster. Hmmm....sounds to me like Douglas was more like Bush in how he planned out things--though I will say that the Little Giant had more brains in his little finger than Bush has in his entire body.

17. So, can we say Kristol would have supported the Holocaust? His dad DID write an article called
"On The Political Stupidity of the Jews"

See, we can draw parallels all day long, Billy...

20. If he truly wanted to make an 'appeasement' argument
...complete with "can't we all get along", he would have cited Chamberlain. But no, he picks a completely inaccurate historical event so he can race-bait. Despicable, disgusting, sickening.

25. Maybe because he has a big bullhorn and this s* will be heard again and again
The mere fact that the architect of the war in Iraq is still sanctimoniously lecturing us is surreal - but as he is, I want to know what people who watch faux are told. Some of the times at least.

24. Warmongering arse. He doesn't know history. Or much else but killing.
He doesn't know what he's talking about, as usual. How does Stephen Douglas' wrongheaded doctrine of "popular sovereignty" have anything to do with Obama today? Bottom line is that Obama wants to stop the war, as Lincoln fought to stop the expansion of slavery. It's a principled stand. But the cold-eyed killer Kristol has no principles, except death and power. Worse than a waste of oxygen; this killer is part of the cabal responsible for countless deaths and endless war. One of the worst persons ever produced by this nation.
